Productive DIY Weekend ***With FLASHES***

chloe_chloe, 22 July, 2012 at 16:46 Posted on Planning 0 28

As my OH has been away on his stag do, I´ve pretty much spent the whole weekend making stuff for the wedding. About time too, seeing as we´ve only got 5 weeks left. So, here goes!

Bird cage for cards with signs

Signs for around the venue (here are just 2, have made a few more)

Sign for bathroom basket

Pashmina Basket (am waiting for some cream ones and another black one)

Thanks for all the lovely comments ladies!

BrogstarBride - for the bathroom basket I´ve bought:

Travel size hairspray, hair serum, hair brush and comb, deodorant (spray!), make-up blotting sheets, cotton buds, tampax, safety pins, mini sewing kit, chewing gum, mints, face wipes, tissues, scissors, nail file, clear nail varnish (for tight ladders!), plasters, some heel protectors (the wedding will be outside, so to stop ladies sinking in the grass!), hand cream, sun cream. That´s all I can think of for now, but there are probably a few bits and pieces I´ve forgotten!

icklelea - I´m not sure any more how much the pashminas were. I think they were about 2 to 3 pounds each on Ebay.

The birdcage was just from Ebay - I live in Germany so had to find a seller over here who had one to avoid the extortionate shipping costs. There are quite a few places that sell them in the UK though:

    https://www.lavendersoflondon.com/product/364/3058/Decoration/Bird_Cages/Cream_Metal_Bird_Cage___BC4008.html

    https://weddingmall.co.uk/spare-categories/bird-cages/round-cream-bird-cage-44-5cm-/p2360.html

I then bought some ivy and paper flowers from this site to cover it:

    https://www.papertree.co.uk/paper-flowers-gifts/paper-roses.html

It's really easy, I just used white sewing thread to tie the ivy in place. The flowers were on wire stems which I just twisted round the birdcage.

For the pew ends I bought these wicker hearts (small ones for the pew ends and larger ones for our chairs):

    https://www.lavendersoflondon.com/product/343/2225/Decoration/Hearts/Willow_Wicker_Heart___C518.html

I wasn't too impressed with the quality of them to be honest - they are a lot more rustic in real life than in the website pictures, and they were all slightly different shapes and sizes. You can't really see now that I've covered them though.

I covered them using paper flowers bought from here (I bought both cream and pink):

    https://www.notonthehighstreet.com/

You will need a pair of wire cutters to cut through the garland, as well as some pliers to wrap the cut ends in neatly. I have jewellery pliers which I used for this but you could probably use some out of a tool box!

I'm not sure it would be a very profitable business, as it's taken me ages! I love making stuff though - normally I never have the time, but with the wedding I've had so many ideas of things Id like to do that I've just made myself do it. I'll probably sell some of the stuff off afterwards, as I don't know what I'll do with it otherwise!

I will probably try and sell a few bits on here as I don't like stuff cluttering up the house! We're getting married on 26 August - not long to go now and I still have LOADS to do! Oops.

    Hi,

These are lovely. You should be very proud of them. They look so pretty. I like the idea of a pashmina basket. The bird theme is original too.
