Proposal

Michaela-Megan5, 14 March, 2013 at 08:19 Posted on Planning 0 25

Hi all, I just got engaged two weeks ago today after being with my man for 4 years, I'm 23. It was the best night he took me to get my hair and nails done and bought me a whole new outfit to go see a show in London (Matilda) which was excellent. I had no idea he was going to propose and he did it in the theatre. I'm the happiest girl ever! We haven't set a date as of yet but what I want to know is how did your man propose to you and although not set a date is there any harm in looking at dresses/ buying magazines etc?

thanks, Michaela  x

Awww that's sweet. I thought my man was kneeling down because he's quite tall and the seats were low so I thought he was preparing himself to sit down lol. I see you have a date did you make that straight away? Do you think there's any harm in me looking at dresses etc even though we don't have a date set? X

    Congrats, and welcome to Hitched.

No big proposal here, we'd already had a baby, got a house, so marriage was the next thing to tick off the list.

    Went sonething like this

H - So, shall we get married then.

    Me - Yeah, OK.

    H - Ok, i'll sort it.

Few weeks later he phoned to tell me the date of our wedding, and that was that. We got married 2 months later.

Nothing wrong with nothing big. I kinda want a baby before we get married. We're soon going to be buying a house so that's why a date isn't set. I think it will be at least 2 years though I would get married tomorrow lol. X

Congratulations! Sounds like a wonderful proposal!

No harm whatsoever of looking at dresses and buying magazines. Always good to get a head start! Would suggest creating a pinterest board as well - can be great to organise your ideas together in one place!

    Congratulations! Smiley smile

My H2B was meant to propose on valentines day last year but he was ill so a few days later we went out for a meal, then when we got home there were rose petals and candles lit everywhere and he popped the big question!

It took us a year to get round to booking our venue and setting a date, although I did buy a couple of wedding mags and tried on some wedding dresses last year. There isn't any harm in looking Smiley smile x

We set the date a couple of weeks after we got enagaged. We knew what time of year we wanted we made a lucky dip of the 2 months we wanted and the Saturdays and he picked out the 28th of June. We had it set a couple of weeks later originally but his famiyl kicked up such a fuss over it we changed it (keeps them happy and my life stress free lol) No harm looking at dresses on Xmas day I was scouting dresses lol. I bought my dress a couple of weeks ago too even though I have well over a year left. There is no harm looking at anything at the moment in my opinion theres no rush for any of it Smiley smile This is a time to enjoy and not stress to much lol. I have pretty much sorted everything but the venue decorations and the suits for the guys as I believe I would rather be organised 6 months before hand then running around 6 weeks before hand like a blue bummed fly.

    xx

Yep! I'm just getting impatient now! I have a pinterest board too - have a search for it if you want - I put lots of ideas on there - even stuff we're not going to do! (tayto)

I don't think there's any harm in it. My mum bought a magazine almost as soon as I told her and the great thing about it is it had information about all the legalities, gave you a suggested timeline of when to do what etc and had a whole wedding venue directory at the back, split in to different areas in the country (Best Scottish Weddings fyi). I also started looking at dresses early on and still making up my mind but it's between 2 by the same designer.

We got engaged in November last year. We were going on holiday the next day and my OH came home from work and said he had a surprise for me. He gave me my coat which he had had in the dry cleaners for about 3 months and which I'd been constantly nagging him to bring back to me. He then ran out the room and said he had another surprise but I had to stand up and close my eyes. When I opened them he was down on one knee with a bunch of white roses (only time he's ever given me flowers!) and just came out with "Will you marry me?" We got the ring designed whilst we were on holiday and didn't tell anyone till we came back.

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

I got engaged Monday October 15th Smiley smile. He took me for a romantic 4 day weekend to Rome. I had a sneaky suspicion it was going to happen but.....i was a very grumpy bunny on the 15th, it was our last night there. I had gotten my hopes up and then thought it wasn't going to happen. He took me for a gorgeous meal and drinks, i had been complaining of a head ache all day and that my feet were hurting due to silly flats and uneven streets. When we left it was dark and we was walking through all the cobbled streets it was really lovely, it was the perfect temperature to just warm enough for no jacket to be worn. We got to the Fountain Di Trevi and we stood there looking for a while having a romantic little kiss he stood behine me and cuddled me from behind. The fountain was beautiful all the water lit up it was sooo gorgeous.

I turned round when i felt his hands move from around my waist.....and there he was getting down on one knee, i cried before he got to the floor haha! He then said "you have probably seen this coming.....but would you do me the honour of becoming my wife?" i did a big crying grin and a nod and everyone around that fountain clapped and cheered.

So amazing....i didnt know he was so romantic Smiley smile.

Im sat here with a gooey smile on my face now lol. Bless there cotton socks!! they do know how to do us proud sometimes lol

    Here is ours
I suppose it all started on Christmas Day 2012 , my fiance and I were spending Christmas with family in the Bavarian alps , My fiance Richard handed me a Christmas Card which was addressed from our Bunny Boris it said that he had arranged for " Mummy and Daddy" to go on a special trip and that we had to be at Manchester Airport on 28th December only 1 day after our return back to the UK
So I set off back to the UK excited to find out where our surprise trip was going to be, so we arrived at the airport on 28th December and after many attempts to find out where we were going for my xmas trip i was still non the wiser. as we approached the check in desk i noticed it was an Air Lingus flight to Shannon in Ireland ( I wasnt exactly overwhelmed but I thought it would be nice anyway ) once we got to the desk the lady asked my partner where we were flying today , to which he responded New York , I was so excited as it was somewhere I have always wanted to go .....
Once we arrived at JFK i was informed we would be spending a few days up state in the mountains of Pennsylvania then returning back to the city for New Years eve in times square.
when we arrived at Pennsylvania in a quaint little town of tannersville we arrived at the most beautiful log cabin ive ever seen surrounded by snow with a private terrace, roaring fire and a jacuzzi bath the size of a swimming pool it was beautiful. we spent the first few days skiing then on the 30th December we had been out skiing and returned to our cabin after a long cold day we put on the fire and had a relaxing jacuzzi bath , i decided to have a lie down and my partner said he would go over to the reception to rent a dvd to watch about 10 mins later there was a knock on the porch window
I walked outside to the terrace where Richard was down on one knee beside some fire wood which spelt out will you marry me in the snow , it was the most magical moment of my life as the sun set down behind him he walked over and presented me with a glistening bespoke diamond ring which was simply stunning. we spent our first evening as an engaged couple in a gorgeous little french bistro in the village and prepared to head into the city for the New Year celebrations
New York City was everything i hoped we stayed a boutique 5 star hotel and dined at some fabulous places , I was spoilt rotten thehigh light was New years eve on times square we had dinner in a revolving restaurant over looking the New year celebrations it was a wonderful way to start or new journey and a new year together as an engaged couple
sorry its so long lol i had alot to fit in

My other half proposed on Christmas day last year. My mum and dad, plus my sister and her husband were all over for Christmas and we'd all just sat down ready for my OH to dish the pressies out. It didn't start off that romantic - I think he said to me "get up!", but then he got down on one knee, handed me a little box and popped the question. I think it was extra special having my family there too, although it turns out that he'd told my mum his plans about 6 months before hand!

I've quickly fallen in love with wedding planning - I don't go on about it to everyone but most nights I'm on the laptop browsing wedding sites. My sister was trying to talk us into getting married this year instead of next but I'm enjoying the planning side of it so much I don't want to cut it short! It's definitely worth keeping track of what you've looked at and loved though because there is so much out there it''s hard to remember otherwise.

    Congratulations!!

My H2B asked on our first holiday togethr.
We went to Key Largo in Florida with his family and about 3 days after arriving we all 'decided' (this was pre-planned i just didnt know) to take a drive down to Key West for the day and to watch the sunset. Anyway long story short after spending the day in Key west we headed down to the water front to sit and watch the sunset, this is where my H2B and his dad said they needed to go back to the car and asked me to go with them, knowing it was a long walk back to the car and if miss the sunset i was a little upset but being polite i went with them.

Instead of walking back to the car a taxi was called once it arrived me and my partner got in but his dad didnt, instead he lent inside the drivers window and handed him a note and with that we where off. It striked me a bit odd when we went past the area the car was parked in, but then even more odd when we pulled into the private section of Key West Internation airport. At this point my partner revealed he had booked a 45 min sunset helicopter ride over Key West. 15 mins to the end of the ride the sun set and we started getting permission to land not long after permission was granted my partner turned and smiled at me, it took me a couple of seconds to realise he was holding a small ring box with a ring in it and he asked me to marry him over the speaker system. As soon as i said yes the piolet pulled out a bottle of champange that he had wrapped up in his coat with an ice pack around it and we toasted our engagment.

When we landed and got back to the water front i then found out that his whole family was in on it and they all knew. I still dont know how he managed to get the poilet to let us have champange while in flight all i can put it down to was the fact it was a private hire and not through a company.

Taken the night after the engagment in Key Largo but just so you can see how pretty the sunsets are
