Proposal Ideas

Sun-Tzu, 22 January, 2013 at 14:07 Posted on Planning 0 16

Hi there. Looking to propose to my girlfriend in the next couple of months and looking for some inspiration. Was looking to take her away for the night and to a lovely restaurant and just pick my moment between the cottage and the restaurant but now starting to think about something a little closer to home.

Any help would be appreciated!

    Hey,

My OH proposed to me at home. When I got in he had put roses all along the floor leading to the living room and then petals and candles out with my ring box. If you use the search function and type in proposal there will be threads with ways that peoples OH have proposed.

    HTH.

Think of something unique to your relationship, and work something around that. My OH told me she was pregnant by text (there were extenuating circumstances, so it became something of an in joke)

So to propose, i bought a kiddies flip-top mobnile phone from The Learning Centre, and printed out some nice stickers, one on the front saying "I know you said you would kill me if i text you...", and then one on the inside with "...but i couldnt resist! Will you marry me?" And the ring held in place just below with some gold wire. It worked a treat, and she still has the phone ?

My OH put my ring a present- sounds cheesey but it was appropriate to us!

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

If you live near a beach that can been seen from a decent height, for example a cliff edge (safe of course) then write the proposal in huge letters in the sand. Pick a day when the tide is out early morning then head out and write it, get a mate or something to make sure it doesn't get ruined and then take your girlfriend to the beach for the surprise message. I've seen it done before and it worked a treat.

A friend of mine bought his girlfriend a kinder egg as it was easter and when she opened it there was a ring....that's pretty amazing!

My guy asked me in Oz at my family home on NYE, it was simple and sweet and just the 2 of us, I was looking scruffy and casual and if you had asked me beforehand I would have said ooo somewhere nice and glam, but it was perfect

You can go all out or you can keep it simple but to be honest no matter what you do it will be perfect, you should know your girl and what she would like - good luck x

I took her for a picnic by a rose garden - half bottle of wine, fancy cheeses and charcuterie, and some nice chocolates for dessert. Then brought out the ring, and asked. Look for little details to personalize it - I wore a dark purple shirt and light purple tie, as it's her favourite colour. She is American, and we were on an ice hockey road trip with the team I coach, over the US Thanksgiving weekend, in Portland, OR. I proposed on Thanksgiving Day (which is 6 weeks later in the US than in Canada) so that the day would always have meaning for both of us, not just her.

It depends on her, and on your style. I also made sure, right from early on in the relationship when I knew it was something special, to pay close attention any time she ever happened to mention an engagement ring, so that I could get her the one she always wanted.

Just make it simple and romantic. A dinner in your own home will just set it up romantically. Hmmm, try to make her out,and do it. Make a plan. It might be sound overused but kneel when you propose. ?

I was proposed to in bed. Not in especially romantic circumstances. But I didn't care! If your OH loves breakfast in bed maybe sneak a ring onto a tray.

OR slip a note into the book she is reading?/ stick a note to her computer Send her on a mystery hunt around the home (little arrows, little clues, even get her to go past and give you a kiss just move quick to being at the end with a ring). Make a slideshow of photos of your relationship to date, put in some text, about how you feel, ideas for your future?

When you go shopping why not do the romantic lifting her over the threshold thing and then just ask (just careful she doesn't fall from surprise).

My OH went away for a week in January with some friends and asked me to book a table at our favourite restaurant for the night he got back. Little did I know he was planning to propose but we had about a week's worth of heavy snow that started a couple of days before he came home so I told him I wasn't happy driving the 20 miles to the restaurant so I cancelled the table. (I know, I felt terrible when he told me afterwards!) As we were stood watching the snow fall in our garden, he proposed! It was so romantic and it was perfect for me as I LOVE it when it snows, I turn into a 5-year-old!!

There's an ice cream farm near us which has the same surname as my OH so we make a joke about it. He took me there last august and after we'd got our ice creams went for a little walk around the farm and he proposed. I wasnt looking and turned to face him and he was kneeling on the ground! It was really romantic to me and I dropped my ice cream on the floor. We've been back a few times since and it always feels special

Ooo how exciting! My OH proposed to me on the 3rd anniversary of our 1st date. He took me out to dinner to the place we had our first date. Before we went in for our meal he gave me what I thought was an anniversary card, when I opened it, it said 'To my fiancée'. When I stated I wasn't his fiancée he produced a ring and said 'would you like to be? Will you marry me?'.

It was low key and very personal (and just 20 minutes from home!). If your girlfriend doesn't like to be the centre of attention remember this, I would've hated it if my OH had proposed to me in a restaurant full of strangers!

Good luck, how ever you decide to do it she will be over the moon.
