Proposals!

futuremrsscott, 16 July, 2013 at 09:10 Posted on Planning 0 10

I'm sorry if this has been done before but I'm in my post hen / pre wedding lull and would love to hear some stories of how your OH's proposed!

My not usually romantic man took me to see the phantom of the opera on New Year's Eve 2011 and booked a room at the Royal Horseguards that overlooked the london eye so after the theatre we watched the fireworks from the room! It was amazing and when they ended he got down on one knee, I can't remember what I said but I know I forgot to say yes!

How lovely ? lol-ing at the forgetting to say yes part as I was the same!!

We were away on holiday in Portugal, and took a day trip to Lisbon, we were enjoying walking through the town and looking in all the little local shops and enjoying a wee drink every few bar/cafes. We were walking down a cobbled street and at the end of the street there was a beautiful archway that opened up to the sea, OH just stopped me and starting saying how much I meant to him, loved me etc while holding the ring box in his hand, he was shaking so much I thought he was going to faint! I think I said something along the lines of 'oh my god, its gorgeous, I love it, wow we are getting married' then after about an hour of sitting having wine and staring at the ring I realised I hadn't actually said yes, or told him I loved him aswell!! Which I quickly put right lol!

    Aw lovely!!

I sort of planned it all out for my OH by accident. Had arranged to have a meal with our friends but suggested a drink and a walk along the seafront first. We walked to the top of the cliff where we have always gone and looked out over our home town. He suddenly got down on one knee said some really lovely things. I remember us both laughing a lot.

OH is quiet romantic anyway, and he had always said he knew how to do it - I am unsure of this!

We went away to North Wales for a few days in May this year. We both love exploring and finding things etc.. We decieded to Go to the top of Mt Snowdon. unfortunately we hadn't trained to climb it so we got the railway up. I nearly blew it as i saw something in his pocket and he made up it was the phone charger but it was actually the box!

When we got to the top it was blizzards it was sooo windy! he planned to do it on the top of the ridge but if i am honest I was scared it was so cute and really windy - even so the walkers with all the sticks and everything were holding onto rocks! But he did find a little place where it was just me and him (and the train driver could also see!)

ans he asked me, I told him to get down on one knee and he did! he had a speal but it the weather was to bad, and after I said yes the sun came out and we got a pic on the top!

when we got to the bottom he told me what he was going to say.

We then went out to a little bistro in Anglesey on the sea front and had a very informal meal.

Well! My OH had started thinking about proposing back in Aril last year, he asked my dad for permission etc.

He bought the ring in September and he planned to do it the day after my friend's wedding in October, as we were away and he wanted it to be special. However, when the ring arrived, he apparently couldn't wait and did it on a Saturday morning while I was sat on the sofa in my dressing gown, with bed hair and a mouth full of Special K! He just thrust the ring box in my face and mumbled. It was very sweet though.

The only thing I wasn't happy about was the fact he'd told all our friends and family that he was going to do it soon so nobody was surprised when I told them I was engaged! ☹️

I came very close to ruining mine, id been away with work sunday to tuesday and he went and got the ring, booked a table for 10 at our favourite restaraunt, got my parents up for a 'graduation surprise meal', they live three hours away, got my aunt and her partner over (theyre closer, my parents stayed with them to keep the meal a surprise). Told his sister and her husband (so he could hide the ring at their house) and invited his parents to the meal.

Nobody but his sister and her husband knew he was going to propose.

Anyway I got food poisoning on the monday, had the rest of the week off work and was still barely eating on saturday (when the meal was booked)

I guessed something was up when he wouldnt cancel the meal or even make it an hour later... but when we got there and I saw he'd got my parents and everyone there for my graduation meal i figured that was all he was hiding (yes in my head i'd suspected he might propose). Anyway once we'd all got settled down and i'd said hi to everyone and drinks were ordered, he blurted out 'so, while i've got you all here, i have a question to ask... will you marry me?'. And that was that, across the table with family there, and to be honest, it couldn't have been more perfect, it didn't draw attention to us in the restaraunt (apart from the fact my aunt and mum and his mum drank a lot and felt the need to toast EVERYTHING but i think that was put down to them being drunk more than anything else....

It took me 15 minutes to say ANYTHING let aloe yes, i nodded my head immediately though so I guess that counted

It was my birthday and we were going to London to see Michael Buble at the O2. I had bought the tickets last year as OH is a massive fan and had always dreamed of seeing him live. We booked a nice hotel to make a real trip of it.

Apparently OH had planned on proposing in our hotel room, which was supposed to have a fantastic view. Unfortunately once we got there we were put in a room with a beautiful view of...the car park! He then considered proposing when we were out for my birthday dinner but thought I'd be uncomfortable with everyone watching (he thought right!) I had noticed he was a bit funny and he kept complaining how hot he was.

Then we caught the Emirates cable car over the O2 and Thames to get to the concert. The views were great and it was a bright sunny evening. He showed me a birthday video of our kids holding up big cards with a birthday message (like Love Actually) and the last one said "One more thing... Daddy says will you be Mrs *****? xxxx" Next thing he's on one knee with a very pretty ring! I think I thanked him before I said "Yes"!?

He asked my dad about a month before hand, which I'm so glad he did (quite special to my dad and I)

I think I can top that Smiley winking

I was driving us in the car, on the M6, hungover and heading back home after a weekend in Scotland with friends. Around 11pm we'd stopped for a pie and a cup of tea at Tebay services as I was falling asleep at the wheel. Back in the car I was having a strop about having to drive another 3 hours when I should be working on my PhD, which turned into a panic about how my life was going nowhere and I'd never graduate etc etc and he told me to shush, then grabbed my hand and proposed. Just like that. I narrowly avoided steering into the central reservation!

I also forgot to say yes!

He said he'd been looking for the ideal moment for a few months but it had never come up, so he thought the M6 was as good a place as any. I don't care if people think it's unromantic, for me it was perfect Smiley smile

Love it! Yours has a funny twist in it and a story but yes your right a proposal while on a motorway really isn't romantic!

My OH wanted to propose in February, the last thing he said to my Dad before he died suddenly from a stroke was asking for his permission to marry me. We had a cottage hired in Yorkshire but we had to cancel that obviously but I didn't know that he intended to propose there.

My OH rebooked it for May, it's was a really cute cottage on the moors with a big fireplace inside. We had dinner and then OH suggested a walk, we went for a lovely walk in the evening. We went through what I thought was a stiff gate to see a pretty church and big stately home and that's where he proposed. It was lovely but I was completely shocked, we've been together for 10 years and I just thought that marriage wasn't his thing, turns out I was wrong.

We went back to the cottage and played connect four and jenga by the fire with champagne while I stared at my hand lol. We spent the weekend, looking at caves and going for long walks. I absolutely love the Bronte sisters and he knows that I just love it there. We returned to where he proposed as I wanted to take some photos in daylight, which is when we found out that the stiff gate was actually padlocked shut. When OH had pushed it he had actually busted the lock and what we were doing was actually breaking and entering when he proposed.

Really pleased we have a romantic story but also a criminal one lol. I'm really glad that Dad died thinking he was going to see me get married. I'm just sad that he won't be there.
