I'd never realised how totally identical my ex looks to that mad hatter picture.

    Mmmmm - cow's head!

I'm enjoying this much more than the ones where he does dishes for you to cook at home. The element of madness is compelling ?

I've always thought of them as endangered (thinking of leatherbacks though)

The grey gunk that was the turtle soup looked rank. I'm with you Peaches that it seems wrong to eat turtles - I guess it's probably because there are so many endangered species of turtle.

Charlie Brooker's review, for those who missed it on Saturday.

I'm also sorely tempted to burn a DVD-R and send it to the director of this in Prague - something tells me he'll like it.

    "Why not eat insects?"

I'm trying to come up with a reason but I'm failing. We do eat prawns after all and they're pretty closely related to woodlice. But I'm still not eating grasshoppers for anyone, not even Heston ?

Turtles are one of the few creatures I feel too sentimental about to eat. Ducks come close.

It's long out of copyright, so here's Vincent M. Holt's Why Not Eat Insects? in its entirety.

I tried grasshoppers in Mexico as a child. They used to sell them, fried, in bags, in the markets - they are a delicacy. I can't remember what they tasted like - I do remember I nearly choked to death when the legs got stuck in my throat!

Reminds me of when M&D served up 'Donald' on Christmas day one year when I was a child. Donald was an Aylesbury duck who followed my Mum everywhere .. seeing as she was the first thing he saw when he hatched! (eggs were incubated under a heat lamp)

Needless to say when they carved and said it was Donald, I retched then too ?

    And cried!

I've eaten mopani worms. They're horrid - you could feel their little legs on your tongue.

I'm sure HF-W had a copy of that in one of the "Cook on the Wild Side" programmes - I seem to remember him persuading a load of kids to go woodlouse hunting with him and made something even he thought was disgusting ?

I'm just watching it on 4+1, having just come in to find son raving about it. Mr Layabout is looking disgusted.
