Purchased some centrepiece stuff - what do you think???

Gillsy, 3 October, 2009 at 19:52 Posted on Planning 0 20

I bought stuff today to try a mock-up of our centrepieces. I could only get one flower though ☹️ but I'll be having 3 with the bear grass. Quite pleased with them - only thing is that the mirrored plate could be bigger but TBH I can't justify stretching the budget another £2 per table just to get bigger plates that I'm not going to use after the day.

Anyways, enough of that - what do you think......

I love them! Think they're really effective. I don't think you need to worry about the size of the mirrors tbh especially with the candles around the edge.

Thanks jem, I've still got table crystals to scatter into the plate and table so it should be ok.

Centre pieces look great, don't think you need a bigger mirror. & you could always try & sell the things used to make them after the wedding to recoup some of the cost!

Think these look fab and exactly what I'm thinking of having too. Do you mind me asking how much bowl, grass, flowers were and where you got them all from?

    Thanks millymollie ?

I'm actually having fresh flowers in the bowls which the florist will deal with - I just bought some fake stuff to play about with. I think she said she could fill them with 3 geberas and bear grass for £5 each.

Anyways, I got the stuff in Flowerscene in Glasgow which is a Florist wholesale place. You might have one near you??? The bowls were £6.50 + VAT and the 30cm mirrored plates were £3.50 + VAT so total of £11.50 for them. I was hoping that I could have done it for less but that was the best I could do. I've looked online at ebay and florist suppliers and they've been more expensive especially with the delivery costs added on. You can get smaller bowls and plates which would bring the costs down but our tables are quite big and I didn't want the centres to get lost once bottles of wine etc went on to the tables.

The bear grass and the gebera were both 35p each.

They are really good. If you go for mini gerbera, you could stretch to 5 in a bowl or 3 for the standard size gerbera. I also think the mirror plate is the right size if you are having the candles too.

Thanks Rainbow Florist I really appreciate an experts opinion!!!!

I think it will be just normal sized geberas that I'll be having - I couldn't find any in the florist shop - must be popular!!!

Hiya, this is exactly what I am having. I have asked my florist how much the bowls and mirrors are to hire and they said £2.50 each!!! Which I thought was quite reasonable?

I heard somewhere you can get all this from IKEA? I would have to travel 2 hours to get there tho!

Tescos sell the bowls at around £6.99 each but not the mirrors, just debating whether to hire or buy them. Thing is I dont want to be worrying about the bowls which the kids running around as I dont have a spare room to store them.....

I recently went to Dunhelm Mill and they have the bowls around the same price, and they have a really fab selection of fake flowers in EVERY colour and also fake bouquets!! couldnt believe it, literally only about £2.99 each in all colours. They also had the grasses in all colours which we proceeded to make a mock up on the floor with the bowl/grasses/flowers, great on a budget!!

    Thanks Kaz

I got this stuff in Flowerscene on Seaward Street in Glasgow - anybody is free to go there.

I also go to Country Baskets in Blochairn, Glasgow but you have to have a trade card for there.

Hope this helps and you find what you are looking for!?!?!

    Hi

I think you've done a lovely job and the mirror is actually the perfect size. However, fishbowl centrepieces can get a bit lost on a table once everything else is on the table such as glasses, bottles etc. I would maybe think about adding a bit more colour to it and get some coloured crystal gel. This pic is only clear gel but if it were pink it would tie in beautifully, or you could even use pink glass beads. Another idea is to use the gel but place pnk flora lights into it so then your centrepieces transform for your evening reception. Obviously it comes down to your budget. A cheaper option is to fill the bottom with pink petals too.
