QQ garden fence being fixed and paying cash or cheque

Keep Calm, 23 July, 2008 at 22:06 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 1

i had a quote today to repair our garden fence, i was quoted £1000 (the price isn't the issue) but the workman asked whether i would be paying by cash or cheque. I said cheque, he then told me that he would have to charge me more because as a company they get charged 21% on each job they do. I have never heard of that before and it sounds a bit high. I told him that i would discuss it with my husband and get back to him. Has anyone heard that before or is he trying to pull a fast one

thanks

Is the extra them paying VAT on the job? ie that the cash option is cash in hand. If so and there is a problem with their work, its unlikely that you'll have any comeback. I think I'd be looking for another firm.

it must be vat, he told me tax. I have never heard of that before. I did think about the possiblity that there may be a problem with the job and we have paid cash.

I'll call up another firm and ask if they do the same thing

    thanks
