question about flowers

sarah321, 13 January, 2013 at 19:44 Posted on Planning 0 6

The nearest florist to my venue doesnt deliver as its too far away but she has said we could pick the flowers up the day before and that they will be fine as long as stored in water. we also wanted button holes but could nt see how these would last as when OH was bridesman at a recent wedding his did nt seemed to last long just during that day. does anyone have an ideas how well flowers and button holes last.

thanks

    Hi Sarah,

You really need to ask your florist about this as it will depend on the types of flowers, how they store them etc... Could you not get them made fresh and then get someone to pick them up on the day?

This....But as for button holes depending what they are could they not just be stored in a cup/jar of water or in the fridge in some damp oasis?

As long as they are stored correctly after you pick them up they will be absolutely fine, if you think about it your florist won't be making them up on the day of the wedding anyway.

My mum is a florist and I know most of her brides collect their bridal party flowers the day before the wedding so they have them for the photos, can give the in-laws theirs etc. My mum always provides a guide on how to look after them and as already mentioned, your florist should be able to do this and ensure you have the right info for your flowers.

Generally speaking, don't put them beside any heat source and keep them out of the the bathroom (I know of somebody who left them safely in their bathroom not taking into consideration the steam created by several people having showers - disaster!) If your bouquets need to go in water you can prop bouquets in glasses with a small amount of water, and if buttonholes need anything it will just be a spritz from a waterspray.

Your florist will be able to tell you exactly what you need to do but don't worry, it's totally possible and done all the time!!

Button holes don't really last that long on because people are hugging the groom and knocking the flower.

My florist says we should refrigerate the buttonholes and corsages overnight and put the bouquets in water Smiley smile

    Hi,

You could have silk button holes. there are very good flowers about.
