question about food,opinions needed !!

snap, 19 May, 2010 at 23:30 Posted on Planning 0 12

So last week i was worried about not giving guests enough drink, and now its food.

My wedding atm is booked at 3, 3 course meal from 5 till 7, then in the evening im not having a buffet (venue charges £12 pp for basic finger food, which for 66 guests will be nealy £800 that i just dont have) I do however have a chocolate fountain and of course wedding cake.

Do you think people will expect a buffet? or be put out and hungry becuase there isnt one? or shall i make everything say half an hour later to make the 3 course meal more into th evening? ?

I have been to weddings where the buffet was hardly touched beacuse people were too full, or left early, so originally wasnt bothered about not having one. But i worry about every detail, lol. Help!

    Hi

Id say if you having the same people all day and not inviting any extra to the evening then you dont need a buffet, however if you are inviting extra people to the evening they might expect something.

Your right tho buffets are hardly touched and its a shame your venue are charging you £12 pp, our venue isnt charging us any extra for evenin guests so don't have to worry too much about paying out for over 100 people ?

    Hey hun

Whay dont you in your invites have some thing that says evening of dancing and cake to follow

Something like that so that it gently hints there wont be a buffett then people will eat before they come

If you're having the same guests for the day and evening then I think you can get away without an evening buffet if you're meal isn't going to finish until 7ish. At weddings I've been to the buffet has opened about 9pm and I can't imagine your guests would be hungry again by this point

Hey-I'm in exactly the same boat as you- We both have the same timings with a later service and meal, and no extra evening guests.

I'm not having an foo din the evening, justour cupcakes, mainly as we cant afford it!

Also with the service being later im hoping people will eat lunch before they come!

yea that was my thinking too, and we are also having cupcakes instead of cake Smiley smile

i wish i could just buy a load of buffet things from M&S, could probably do it for about £200! damn venue rules, seems to me everything wedding related they wap the prices up to stupid amounts cos most people will just pay it!

My venue specifies a minimum spend of £15 per head per evening guest and we've also been given minimum numbers of 150 for the evening as we're getting married out of season. I wish I'd fallen in love with a cheaper venue!!!

Your probably going to call me fit to burn, i can hear you now shouting "Doesn't she think i have enough to do" at the computer screen now, but if you had a small round table going spare at your venue i would just stick some mixed bread rolls, platters of cooked meat and a selection of condiments.

It takes seconds to set up and then guests have the option to have a nibble and soak up some of the alcohol,

if you need any help, with serving dishes or any suggestions or just to say are you for real, just say,

im doing the food for my wedding, being a caterer im not paying someone for something i wont be happy with,

so i have many ideas in this messed up head of mine

no i would be quite happy to do that but unfortuately i cant, we are having the whole day at a hotel, so they do not allow outside/your own catering, all the food and drink has to be from them.

they catch you with that old chestnut all the time, different hotels have different rules, but even though they state it usually if the caterer is up to date with their health and safety then they cant stop you, but in my advice i wouldn't rock the boat, especially if you are getting along with the hotels coordinator and all they are offering, maybe discuss the platters with the hotel and get some offer that would fit your budget,

    good luck let me know
