question about giving notice

Jayne_3131, 24 April, 2012 at 11:05 Posted on Planning 0 11

Hello everyone,

Just a quick question about when you give notice. What is the process? Do they take you in separate rooms and ask you questions about your partner/relationship?! We are giving notice this week and someone told my partner this is what happens. Thanks in advance. x

Thanks amtbride, that sounds straight forward! They said it was £70 + I think £80 to secure the registrar and date. x

Ours was pretty much the same as amtbride - but we were in separate rooms when the questions were asked. Our questions were just where each other works, where eachother lives etc.....

Yea it was a lot more simple than some people had been saying! I was expecting in depth questions like what he'd had to eat for the last month or something!! It only took 10 minutes with 5 minutes waiting for her printer to work so it could be printed out..!

We went at seperate times, then had to go back 2 weeks later to collect the certificate and forward it to our registrar as it was 2 seperate districts. I think she asked my dad's job, OHs job and other basic things. It cost us £30 each.

Does any one else think its really expensive for the registrar (we're having ours come to our venue, not at a registry office)?

We are getting married in different place to where we live - do we have to give notice in both places?

YES! £33.50 each for a licence and them an extra £400 for someone to come and spent 30 mins with you - Daylight Robbery.

Dabbout - i dont think so. I am based in Berkshire but getting married in Hampshire. Had all the interviews and gave notice in Berkshire and they sent all the stuff off to Hampshire. They said i could have collected it and driven it over to Hampshire but they have done it all for me.

You just give notice to the local authority where you live but not where your getting married if it is in a different authority i.e OH and I live in Greenwich so will both be giving Notice to Greenwich Council but we are getting married in Westminster so we have booked the registra at westminster to perform the ceremony but we dont give them our notice.

and yes agree our registra fees was just short of £500 which must equate to about 3 hours work (including their travel, ceremony time, pre and post ceremony preperation)

Yea ours is £355 and £35 each for the giving notice. Then it's £3 for each copy of the marriage certificate!? You think they'd at least give you one included in the price!! Does anyone kno what they actually do? As in how much time they spend prepping for each wedding etc..

Thats the cheaper price because it's a Monday too!
