Question about setting the date!

Gnashalou, 6 September, 2010 at 22:45 Posted on Planning 0 12

I've only just got engaged and I'm due a baby in October, but I'm already thinking about setting a date for the wedding! I can't help myself lol! I was just wondering, did you gals set a date pretty much straight away? How many months/years planning have you allowed yourself, for saving etc? I feel somewhat premature in wanting to set a date now, I only got engaged last friday! I was pondering while on the bus today, as you do, about the month of September being lovely. I totally love this month - it's still fairly nice and summery as far as the weather goes, but the signs of autumn are starting to appear..I dunno, I just have a feeling about this month! So, I was thinking about setting a date for September! Obviously I'll be needing to speak to h2b first, but I just think September 2011 is too soon yet September 2012 is too far away! Oooh the stresses of wedding planning are already setting in! Haha.

What are your thoughts?

    HI,

Our original date was 25 June this year but we had to move it back due to a few non-wedding related issues. Next month will be 4 years since H2B proposed (my birthday). It was only really going to a friends wedding last year that gave us the kick up the bum to set the date. We will have been planning for about 12 months by the time we get married

Hi Mrs DtoB, firstly congratulations on your engagement. There are pros and cons to whichever time of year you pick to get married, but as regards autumn weddings, I have written a blog you might be interested in. September is my very very favorite month for weddings - the colours are superb. Good luck whatever date you choose.

We gave ourselves just over 2 years but I started planning just after we got engaged July 2008. Weeding is November

We started looking at venues in the September to start getting the best deals. You could do it in a year but it would proboably be non stop. 2 years give you time to pace yourself!

We set a date about a month after we got engaged, and it gave us 21 months to plan! Seems ages at the time, but I have to say the time has helped us out big time, it goes much quicker than you think!

And September is a fab choice of month! xxx

Hi and congratulations on the engagement and the coming baby, we got engaged earlier this year and then decided we would like to get married 9th July 2012 ( thinking this is well into the future and would give us plenty of time), but when we finally decided on a venue it was fully booked ( for saturdays) June, July, August and September and only had one date in left in May ( so we've booked this!). My advice would be to decide on a venue and work from there, and as for the stress I thought it would ease a little after the deciding on a venue and setting the date but now the stress is guest lists! lol.

We got engaged April 2007 and were planning to get married on our anniversery in June 2011, we set that date a couple of months after we got engaged I think, when we booked the venue. Initially we planned a long engagement because we were still living at opposite ends of the country (long distance relationship) and needed to save for a place together as well as the wedding. We've now got the house :-) however we had some other issues which meant we had to put the the wedding back to 2012 and we chose the bank holiday weekend in August purely because it was one of a few dates the venue had left available which meant we could have a summer wedding and avoid the Olympics/Football/Significant birthdays!

So by the time we marry we'll have been together 13 years and engaged for 5! I've been looking at wedding stuff and reading blogs since 2007 but only just making decisions and starting to book things now really.

Congratulations on your engagement and enjoy your planning, it'll fly by, whatever date you choose!

When we first started talking about marriage, we had said we'd wait until 2014 so we had plenty of time to save up. Shortly after we actually got engaged (Christmas 2009), we decided to move it to April 2012, and then in July just gone we had another rethink and moved it to July 2011. After we found our perfect venue, we realised there were very few mutually available dates with the registrar and the venue, and the only one that didn't clash with someone's birthday was May 21st! So we will have been engaged for 17 months when we get married and gone through 4 wedding dates!!

Hello! First of all congratulations on your engagment! Isn't it exciting!! I got engaged in July this year and we hope to get married September next year. Trying to not pick my birthday or near it as I want a separate anniversrary present and birthday present lol! We've not picked a date yet till we actually go venue hunting and hopefully the venue we have in mind will work with the Registrar. Its really hard trying to answer the question, "when are you getting married" and its kinda embarrasing just giving a vague answer. I really want to get a date in my diary.

Good luck with yours Smiley smile

Thanks for your thoughts ladies! I am leaning towards September 2012...I would love Sept 2011 but I think we could be putting too much pressure on ourselves financially, plus our baby will only be 11 months old and I'd quite like it if he was that wee bit older. I also reckon I'd need more than a year to get rid of the baby bulge, and at least I know for definite that by 2012 I wont still be breastfeeding! So much to consider though isn't there? When is the 2012 Olympics on? Does that run through September? Thats another thing to consider....

Hmmmm, lots to think about! Thank you all for your feedback, much appreciated! ?

Olympics run 27 July to 12 Aug then Paralympics 29 Aug to 9 Sept. It's also the Euros that summer, between 8 June and 1 July. Call me Bridezilla, but I'm practically a football widow as it is lol, so I didn't want our wedding to clash with any of our friend's plans to attend matches or watch them (no tv at venue, it's a village hall!)

Mine was basically organised around my H - he is a teacher, and he wanted to get married and then go away for 2wks honeymoon, so we had to do it in the first few weeks of the summer holidays! we then visited venues that had availability in those first few weeks and went from there. the final date of the 1st was chosen as i figured H probably wouldn't forget the 1st...

september is still classed as a peak month by many suppliers so it probably won't be any cheaper than jun/jul/aug.

i'd work out how much you would need to save per month if you got married 2011, and how much it would be for 2012, and decide from there.

good luck, and welcome, btw ?
