Question about Sky

slimdebs, 1 May, 2008 at 10:48 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

Ok this is more thank likely a silly question but I am not very good with technology!
We currently pay £38/mth for sky - this includes multiroom. I have had a look and without multiroom we could save £10/mth.
If I cancelled this and bought a tv with built in freeview for the bedroom would this work? Or is there something else I would need in the bedroom to allow me to watch the extra channels?

Freesat is being launched on Tuesday - might be worth looking at that instead. No premium channels but plenty of free ones plus an HD option too.

We can watch sky in our room with a wee eye thing and can change channels from there but would have to watch the same as the main room if someone was watching it there too - what that be useful?

Ok will have a look at that. Does that mean my theory would not work!
Thks Jaz but no that wouldn't work the only reason we have multiroom is because H ALWAYS has sky sports on in the main room ?

Haa so does H or Setanta or whatever so I have the fuzzy terestrial channels in the room ? Freeview could be an option then for E4 etc we had freeview in our room but it's in the spare room now for some reason. Or what BGB said (I don't know what freesat is though)

Debs you need an outside aerial to plug into your tv in the bedroom to get the freeview and check its available in your area. Its not in ours yet! Not until another few years.

www.freesat.co.uk - a great option if you don't really care about Sky but want high def TV for your flatscreen (they do standard definition boxes as well if you don't have one). BBC HD will be available at launch, ITV soon and Channel 4 in the Autumn ( you still get the standard def versions in the meantime). If you don't already have a dish, they will install one for £80. SD boxes cost around £40, HD boxes will be £120-£140.

    BGB,

Im also like slimdebs with Sky, could I get the freesat from sky upstairs (one off £75) and keep the sky+ subscription downstairs, doing away with the £10 a month multi room. All off the one dish?

Or is this not possible and im thinking up things?

Cancel the multiroom subscription and tell them you just want the free channels. Thats what I did and I have all the free channels through the sky digi box on the second box.

Thanks BGB, called up and cancelled the MR. Waste of £ really as its hardly watched.

Also got a new sky + box as ours is starting to play up, had it for years.

We should change this to hitched money saving board?
