Question about suits from my OH!

rainforest7sparkle, 10 February, 2014 at 13:39 Posted on Planning 0 14

My OH has bought his suit and he absolutely loves it. The problem was that we couldn't get a matching one for his best man because he is a bigger guy and the suit wasn't available in his size. So we bought the best man a suit which doesn't match the groom. They have tried them on together and we think it looks fine.

The best man suit is the same colour as the ushers and all of them including my OH have got the same tie so that pulls it all together.

Anyway, in the past couple of weeks, now the wedding is getting nearer, my OH been getting worried about the fact that he and BM don't have matching suits. He's worried it's going to look stupid.

I don't think so at all. The bride is different to the bridesmaids so why can't the groom be different to BM and ushers?! He is wondering what the general views of others are about it. What do you think, would you go to a wedding and think it was strange the groom and BM weren't matching?

I honestly don't think it matters.

We haven't purchased suits yet but we're getting one for OH, one for best man and one for my Dad and all 3 guys are very different body shapes so we will try to get matching ones, but I don't think it's the end of the world if they aren't.

We're going quite casual on attire anyway, no morning suits because OH didn't feel comfortable in one when he tried it on and frankly my dad would hate it aswell!

The ties will match though... that'll do ?

Not at all. it's becoming quite common these days i think. my OH is wearing a completely different suit to the BM and ushers and it hadn't occurred to us that anyone might think it odd.

My OH is wearing completely different to BM, Ushers and dads. It'll look fine. Most grooms like to stand out and be different these days.

Absolutely not a problem. I wouldn't think it looked strange at all.

It's really not strange at all if the suits don't match. If anything, these days it's more common to make the groom stand out from everyone else, because after all, he's special and should be different to them. Have a look at some of the real weddings on Hitched and other blogs, and you'll see the groom is often dressed differently to everyone else. It might not always be the suit that's different, but something more subtle like a different tie or pocket square, but the object is make him stand out, and that's a good thing ?

My h2b is not wearing the same suit as bm, in fact no one in bridal party will wear the same suit, just same colour ties and h2b will wear a cravat.

I dont think it matters at all. H2B will most likely be wearing a different suit to the BM and will definitely be dressed different to my Dad who will be in full Kilt regalia!

I don't think it would be strange either. We've not decided yet whether we hire or buy suits. If we hire, then the men will probably be in the same colour suit but my OH will most likely be in a different style - partly because he's quite slim and 6 ft tall which is completely different to the best man and even my dad. If we buy, then they will just wear their own suits and OH will get a new one - they might be in similar colours but might be completely different!

Same as Shely, we are just asking all members of our grooms party to wear a grey suit and then they will all have matching braces, bow ties and pocket squares ;-)

So to answer your question; no I don't think it will look odd for your OH to be in a different suit to the rest of his party!

Only my OH is wearing a new suit, the other (four!) best men and dads will be wearing whatever suits they have. We can't afford suits for everyone and I quite like them being non-matching.

Same as hundred monkeys - planning on only buying a suit for groom. We don't have the money and df is tall and slim so will look gorgeous in a slim fit suit - the others, not so much! Not sure how my dad will feel about it mind you. My cousin didn't have matching suits and theirs was a very posh do - I liked it. Swirly waistcoats are not for me x

None of our menfolk matched. Our wedding bloody rocked. There's more to getting we'd than moss bros cravats and swirly waitscoats.

We are only buying OH a suit, we are asking everyone else to wear their own, although we will get them the same tie and buttonholes, although I think OH will have a slightly different buttonhole.

We are doing it this way as we don't have the cash to buy/hire suits apart from OH and also we don't want everything to be too matchy matchy. Actually we are making an exception for the page boys, but we can get their suit from M&S for £30 each and although they will probably be matching they won't match OH.

My OH is in a light charcoal suit with a herringbone kind of pattern, his best man and usher are in darker herringbone suits. I think it goes really well & let's OH stand out that little bit more.

I'm not overly a fan of matchy matchy men if I'm honest. If he had more groomsmen they probably would have all had different suits.
