Question about the photographer...??

xlovebirdsx, 11 May, 2012 at 16:20 Posted on Planning 0 10

What happens in respect to the photographer during the Wedding Breakfast? Do they expect a seat somewhere? Or do they entertain themselves in another part of the venue? lol.

Basically, will our photographer expect us to feed and water him?

xx

There was a thread about feeding the photographers this week or last I think. The general consensus is that it is nice to feed them as they work a long day, I will be offering mine a proper meal but they do bring their own sandwiches anyway. I expect our hotel will be able to seat them in a side room or in the bar if they like. It depends on your venue I guess. I don't think a lot of photographers would want to sit down with the guests so don't worry about that!

I believe they usually sit in the bar area as Nicalf said. Most venues will provide a TOG's meal at a small cost, and I would say it is polite to do this. Some TOGs have it in their contract that they require food.

It is in our contract that we feed ours (which i would have dones anyway even if it wasn't)

Depending on our final numbers ours will either sit with us a guest or can choose something from the bar menu.

(I would be shocked if this actually happened as think it is very unproffesional) But I was wondering what i would do if i saw the TOG helping themselves to a beer/wine/champagne with his meal (even if it is just one)... I would probably kick off... i dont want my photos looking wonky after the meal thank you very much LOL

We offered ours a meal but he said he prefers to bring his own food as it's a long day at work for him (first thing in the morning until a little while after the first dance) and a big meal is too heavy - he won't be taking photos during the actual meal so think it's his chance for a breather! So he'll take himself off somewhere and come back in time to photograph the speeches. Think it depends on which photographer you get, just ask them if they bring their own meals Smiley smile xx

I generally sort this out with the couple before the day. Most people are happy to provide a meal for me and the staff at the venues usually sort this out if not.

I take an hours break during the wedding breakfast when I eat away from everyone else. Its nice to have some quiet time during an otherwise hectic day and nobody wants to see photos of themselves eating. I keep checking back to ensure I don't miss any wedding shenanigans (or the speeches!) I also always carry a snack as eating times are very messed up during the average wedding day.

Regarding drink, I often get couples offering me booze during the day but always refuse. I don't think this would be professional. I also get couples asking if I want to stay behind for a drink when I've finished. Again, I have never done this as I like to keep work and socialising separate.

I always point out to the couple that I will provide my own food or get something in the bar area during the wedding breakfast. However, most couple's often tell me that they have organised a meal for me, which is nice and always appreciated, but not expected.

I always get offered food and it's always nice to sit at the bar or the room next door so you can still hear what's going on. Saying that, I do become friends with a lot of my Brides who then sit me on a table with guests. Either way I don't mind as it was very kind to even be given food.

In the last mahoosive thread nearly everyone said to feed the suppliers who will be there all day a decent meal and that they should sit away from the main area, but nearby.

Whether you fed me or not, I would still want to photograph your wedding. That to me is more important than anything else. I do object though to some venues that profiteer by charging couples outragious amounts for vendor food often when they have a lot to spare.

I think you need to speak specifically to the photographer you have hired, to find out what his or her expectations / requirements are!
