I think as with anything wedding related there is no set rule, but from weddings I have been to and based on my own I would say....

Bouquet/Garter - I have usually seen done during the day, when the main photos are taking place.

    Cake cutting

    First Dance

    Father/Bride Dance

Althought depending on your photographer you might want to have a "mock" cutting the cake photo if the photographer wont be there in the evening.

When doing your timings, bear in mind that whatever you make first in the evening may not be seen by everyone as people tend to arrive a little later than advertised.

I agree. Lots of people like to leave the cutting of the cake until the evening guests arrive, so that they can see it and take pictures, with sometimes a staged picture for your photographer. This only works, however, if you're serving your cake with your evening buffet. If you're serving it as dessert or with coffee after the main wedding breakfast, you'll need to do it earlier.

A garter toss is a very American tradition and, despite having been to dozens of weddings, I've never actually seen it done, but I would guess at the start of the evening. Bouquet toss would probably best be done during group photos.

First dance would usually kick off your evening entertainment, once the evening guests (if any) arrive. Father/daughter dance (again, and American tradition) would usually be done straight after the first dance.
