Hi all,

I was wanting to have a grooms cake made as a surprise for h2b as he lurrrrrrrrrrrrves cake! I may be really really thick for not knowing this, but can you ice angel cake?? I'm thinking you should be able to but its the fact that it comes in 3 different bits and its soft creamy sponge thats throwing me.

Go on then, tell me how dim i am!! lol

My OH LOVES angel cake also!! lol, I think im going to have another wee surprose cake for him but its going to be a sponge or a chocolate cake. He's a farmer so Im going to have it done as a wee farm cake! lol sad i know...but i know he will love it. and all his wee farming buddies would as well! i was going to have the sponge/chocolate cake out the back cut and ready for serving, but then i thought why not add a little bit of something different! Smiley smile

You could use the ready roll fondant icing

You can ice it but its tricky - a professional cake maker shouldnt have a problem...but if you are planning on doing it yourself you may struggle. 'Royal icing' - the thick rolled kind is hard to apply to a sponge as it works best with a firmer cake like a fruit cake...but its not impossible. If you want an easier job you could opt for some frosting - then you will just have to pour it over the cake whilst its on a wire rack and it'll coat it itself.

Good luck, I hope it goes ok xxx

If you roll the sugarpaste quite thick and coat the angel cake like Jules says, you shouldn't have a problem. Once covered in the icing, rub it with a smoother and it will stick on really well, then trim any excess off....
