Question for Driving Instructors/Examiners or anyone with extensive driving experience

ruthy_wuthy, 17 October, 2008 at 17:11 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

I hope you don't mind me asking this over in OT even though I'm a WPer at the mo.

I failed my driving test about 6 weeks ago now and have my next test next week. However, I was ill after my test and then my instructor couldn't fit me in so I actually haven't driven for 6 weeks other than half hour in OHs car a couple of weeks ago.

I have a 2 hour lesson tomorrow and then 1 hour before my test next week but that's really it. Is it realistic for me to expect that's enough? Will I have forgotten everything?

I failed my test for undue hesitance in pulling out of a junction and then lack of planning for over (under?) taking the right hand lane on a dual carriageway..I'm just not sure if I should just cancel my test...

What do you think I should do?

TIA ?

    Hiya,

I think only you can answer that depending on how you feel. I'd have your 2 hour lesson tomorrow and then see how you feel. How much notice do you need to give to cancel your test? Your instructor should also have an idea as to whether s/he thinks you are ready. Or if you really want to keep the test can you have more driving lessons within that space of time or go out more with your OH?

Did you complain about the examiner from the first test?

    Hi PG!

I think it's probably too late to cancel and retain my fee...I think today was probably the last date! I'll speak to my instructor tomorrow... If that's the case I may as well just do the test for the experience, don't you think?

I did complain about the examiner I had on my first test and they gave me the last test free because of it. I just don't want to fail for the third time, you never know how you'll feel on the day I suppose and rather not put myself through it if at all possible!

    xx

I agree that you should see how the next lesson goes and decide after that. Could you do some more lessons or practice between now and the test?

I passed third time, so fingers crossed for you! ?

If it's of any reassurance to you I failed my test, went away for a week when I didn't drive at all. The day after I got back I got up in the morning and my mum said "come on you've got your driving test". I had my own car which I used for the test and it was literally the first time I'd driven since failing. I passed !

Often a break can actually help as the expectations are lowered and you will be more likely to relax more.

Ironically when I took my test the waiting time was several months. The instructer on my first lesson advised me to put in for the test as it was likely to be ages before it came through........2 weeks later, due to a *** up and me being given a cancellation, I was taking the test. Due to expecting to fail, I relaxed and passed...much to the surprise of the driving instructer.
