Question of: Guestbooks (in whatever form)

inovermyhead, 14 January, 2015 at 19:06 Posted on Planning 0 16

Worth it or not....

Think I would like to have something but am worried that as we're not having a "typical" day that people might not fill it in/up etc!!! Whatcha all reckon?? ?

We're having a framed photo from our pre wedding shoot for the main day. As there's only 31 including us and 4 small children it's plenty big enough for that day. Our after wedding party will have around 80 people and I think we'll have a standard guestbook for that as I'd like people to sign it. I know not everyone will as some will be too busy drinking ale lol, but I thinks it's a nice thing to have. X

The best way to make sure the guest book is filled out is to have somebody take it round the tables after dinner, and again later in the evening. At my BIL wedding they had their 4yr old page boy do it. Who could resist such cuteness? I certainly didn't see anybody say no!

We are having a photobooth and get a guestbook with that. The booth attendants stick in a copy of the image and ask the subjects of that picture to sign it - problem solved!

I am thinking the same, and at the moment am thinking along the lines of 'message in a bottle'.... So going to get a big glass bottle for the card table and then I think make up some little 'guestbook' pieces of paper to put at everyones place setting for dinner in the hope they write a little message between courses and then put the papers into the bottle (or failing that we can collect them from the tables when we tidy up). Just an idea at the moment but thought I would share, as agree it's hard to get one book around everyone so with this I will put all of the individual papers into a scrap book after the wedding. That's the plan for now anyway.... Xx

We are having a Guest Book Chest, everyone will sign a wooden heart and put it in the chest which i have ordered to be big enough to also fit all wedding cards and other moments from the big day in. I too was wondering how to get everyone to sign, i will probably have the DJ do a couple of reminders to sign a heart, although i do love the comment about having the little page boy do it! Might rope my 5 year old to make people sign them! ?

Because of our plan for the day (still to be set in concrete as we've yet to book the afternoon/evening venue and as it's a local bar I'm a little hesitant to try and book this far out as when I made enquiries with them last year about hiring they almost choked with how long we had to go!!! What can I say? I like to be organised hahaha) there will be no "wedding party" to hand a book round, so I'm liking the idea of being able to leave something on a table and people fill it in as they like. Am thinking of sticking it near the cake, which I'm hoping to cut for all of our guests in the evening, so when people go and look at the cake, they'll see the guest do-dah and fill it in/sign it......

Hence my worry of people not signing it cos it wouldn't be passed round... ?

I've seen some bad guest books that's put me off having an actual book version; so many blank pages at the end as people haven't filled it out, or incredibly drunk scrawled messages that must be impossible to read the next day. And i've heard of an inappropriate drawing being added to a book form which the bride was understandably very upset about. So i'll be going down the 'message in a bottle' route, where each message is written on separate paper so i can stick them in a nice book after the wedding. I'm also planning on sticking the wedding cards in this, which will be more collective of guests and hopefully nicer sober messages!

I don't think we're going to have one. Signing frames and things like that tend to always look a lot more full than an actual book. I also really don't want someone going around encouraging people to sign anything, so I think we'll just leave it.

We're doing mad libs though, which should hopefully be quite funny.

We love a guest book! When we have our Photo Booth set up, we have a crafting table next to it so people can cut the pics out, stick them in the book and leave a message! I had a traditional one at my wedding, and I love reading back on the messages people left. There were a few empty pages at the end but that's ok!

Our guest book puzzles ALWAYS get filled up and the more unusual the guest book the more likely it is to get filled in.
