I always thought the general idea was that the Brideslave ( ;-) ) wears whatever hideous thing the bride choses.

In my case, my big bridesmaid already had a dress she thought would be perfect after she saw my planning mock-ups, and lo it was. Every summer the flowergirls (my nieces) fight over a dress my mum made for me when I was a little, so my mum is making two similar ones for their outfits. Something's gotta go wrong, it seems too easy!

Not really sure if there is a certain etiquette to be followed here or not?? I hadnt really thought about it too much. I just picked a couple that I liked (and that fit in with the colour scheme) and then got my BM's opinions on them. Thankfully, we all have very similar tastes and thankfully the dresses i picked were a winner and we just went from there.

I guess that money may come into the picture here a little depending on who is paying for them...I was lucky not to have this problem though. I'm paying so you're wearing it biatch!! Muhahahahahaha.....Kidding!

I think the bride should choose it, it's her day. When we were going to have them made by a friend I said that the adult BM could have whatever style she wanted, as long as it was the same fabric. But now we are buying them she is having what I say ?

Bride should chose, but bridesmaids should be happy with it as they have to wear it. Keep shopping until you agree.

I'm letting my sister choose her own dress as she's the only adult bridemaid i'll be having, just told her the colour i wanted, also we live 200 miles apart so its just easier. She picked my nieces bridemaid dress and it was exactly the kind of thing i'd been looking at, so i trust her taste to pick herself something nice to wear.

Very true. I originally wanted light pink BM dresses but my CBM wouldn't have felt comfortable in it so I changed to a more flattering midnight blue, which I love.

I chose the colour range and they're choosing their own. but then I'm not having all the dresses the same (they can have whatever they want in that colour). so far only my sister has got hers...

We went shopping together and it was a mutual decision! I knew which one of the two we narrowed it down to she prefered but i thought the other would go best with my dress when we tried it all together the one she prefferd actually went better.

Everyone (mum, MIL and BM) thought i should take the colour that was in the shop. Was a really beautiful Purple but i am getting married in Mexico and just didnt want a winter purple as beautiful as it was. So put my foot down with the sage green. It came in about three weeks ago and it looks Fab!

I think it should be a joint decision. Utlimately, they have to wear it so have to look nice in it and feel comfortable so i'm letting them pick. And I picked the BMs as they were my best mates so I wouldn't put them in something they're not happy with.

As it happens, my BM is so laid back and liked the first picture I sent to her ? I said they could choose strap or strapless and she said she'd prefer straps. I stumbled across a picture, sent it to her and pretty much she's happy with that - doens't need to look at any more! I've managed to get her to come dress shopping on Saturday to try it on an check - so fingers crossed, we like it still!!
