Questions about BM Dresses *BT refs*

pandorasbox, 27 February, 2016 at 13:57 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hello all WPers, old married here dipping my toe back into the planning forums. I never had BMs at my wedding so need to ask a few questions.

I'm due to be BM at end of July, which is also 2 weeks before my second baby is due. Hmm. Hopefully it won't be early! Luckily my friend has told me I don't need to match the other bridesmaid, which would look ridiculous anyway as she is size 0 and titchy, whereas I am a 16 and 6ft tall plus will look huger than ever obviously. Anyway I can choose whatever floor length dress I want as long as it matches his suit or shirt, he and his partner haven't decided yet on their colours and won't be picking until Easter.

I know my dress will probably take longer than their suits, but haven't got time to get into bridal shops just yet so have been looking just online, but info is limited. I can see on Dessy they do some maternity styles with 'extra length' available but does anyone know how much longer that generally is? I remember when ordering my wedding dress some brands said 'extra length' but it was literally 1 or 2 inches which was not enough.

Also how much time do BM dresses take to order in?

Finally my friend has told me my budget is £150 - can I get a decent dress complete with alterations for that do you reckon?

TIA

From very brief research, Dessy dresses tend to be £150-£250 for just the dress, not including alterations or accessories. I would suggest contacting your local Dessy supplier to check prices.

I'm 5'7" ish and the Dessy longer length was huge on me so I think you'd be OK.

    Thanks ladies.

How long generally does it take to get the dresses ordered in?

Mine was ordered in mid July and had arrived by early October. I don't know exactly how long it took though or whether it could have been rushed

I'm not sure if you have considered ASOS as the last couple of years they have been stocking bridesmaid dresses (and also have lovely floor length maxis) as they have both tall and maternity ranges, so you might find something there x
