Quick ebay help question

overtherainbow, 24 October, 2011 at 11:54 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

I'm a bit of an ebay virgin but we've just sold hubby's mountain bike on there. The other stuff I've sold recently have been paid for by Paypal. Because this was a bike, we put collection only. The buyer has asked when he can come and pick it up but hasn't paid on Paypal yet. I got a message flashed up from ebay saying that I shouldn't let people complete the transaction out of ebay otherwise there's no comeback. So does this mean I can't accept cash from him and he has to pay by Paypal or what? Don't want to lose the sale but don't want to break any ebay rules. Help! ?

You can accept cash if you want.

Sometimes if we sell larger items that need collecting we have taken cash. Normally you can mark manually on ebay that they have paid and then leave feedback as usual..

They don't have the protection on paypal if they do it this way..

    I hope that helps!

EBay is my next addiction after Hitched.

I had bought quite a few things which have been collection and we have paid cash on collection. It's totally up to you. eBay will not settle a dispute if you agree on a cash transaction, but you as the seller are hardly going to be making a complaint.

Just check the cash is not fake notes?

Thanks ladies - panic over! Just out of interest, what if he tries to barter with the price? Only reason I ask is that he messaged asking what was the lowest we were prepared to accept and we said the starting bid price and he bought it at that.

As other's have said you can accept cash, the buyer is the one who won't have any protection via Paypal.

If he tries to barter just tell him no, he won the auction at that price and that is what he needs to pay. If he doesn't want to pay that price then he shouldn't have bid.

I sold my car via Ebay and took £100 deposit via paypal then he gave me the rest as cash on the day he collected it

The price he bid is the price he is contracted to pay!

I paid for a Wii in cash last year. I went and collected it. I think Ebay just say that to cover the buyer's back in case the item is faulty and they want a refund.

It's actually better for the seller to be paid by cash, Paypal take a % commission.

Another plus for a buyer paying cash on collection is that when they collect you have no trackable way of proving that the item was delivered, so if they had paid by paypal they could claim that they have never received it and claim their money back.
