Quick update on my back

Consuela Banana Hammock, 29 August, 2008 at 13:08 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

I had a good nights sleep although to start with it was tricky to find a comfortable position but today I'm feeling a lot better. I'm still getting the odd twinge rather than continuous pain which I had yesterday and moving around is helping. I feel really positive and plan to take it easy for another three or four days and hopefully get back to the gym next week all being well. I'm taking Ibuprofen and doing very gentle stretches. I'll walk my dog again this afternoon and see how that feels.

Thanks for all the advice yesterday. H emailed me from Australia and when I told him what the Wisdom of Hitched had suggested, he told me to do as I was told and completely rest!! So thanks again everyone.

Glad you're feeling better. I was thinking about you and your back this morning.

If it starts to pinch again go and see the physio and have it massaged out [stern voice from someone who has experienced the pain]!

    Hope it continues to improve.

It's weird - it only twinges when I'm in bed - lying down flat on it, that is. I've been fine driving today and walking around and later on I'm going to do some light exercises - lunges and squats and tricep dips - tenatively to see how it is.

I've only been taking 2 Ibuprofen per day and was wondering whether I should take them more regularly?

I still think you'd benefit from going to a physio CBH. They won't do you any harm, and what's £45 for the price of your health and comfort?

The first time it happened to me I just didn't have the money to go, but I couldn't walk! It's funny now looking back, but I really was bent double and in so much pain. I just had to find the money and she first put a heat lamp on my back, then used ultrasound followed by massage. And I walked out pretty much pain-free, but more importantly - upright! It was amazing!

Have you spoken to anyone (professional) about it? Like your Dr on the phone? Or has it eased enough that you're fine with it? If so, that's great. Wish mine had worked itself free and saved me some money! (it happened quite often, but since I had spinal fusion, I've hardly ever trapped a nerve [touch wood])

Given how much it seems to improve each day, I haven't felt the need to seek any professional help with it. If I can't exercise or by exercising it causes pain, then yes, I will but I'm hoping with continued rest, it'll be fine. But walking and driving are fine and it hasn't hurt since I got out of bed! I even cleaned the windows earlier on and wielded the hoover so it's definitely improving! ?

But the bottom line is I want to go back to the gym and do weights next week and if I can't do that, then yes, I'll be looking to get it pummelled - it certainly wouldn't hurt. (And as H is back tomorrow, he can pay for it!) ?

Thanks for asking after me Peaches. Nice to know you care! ?

That's great news. If it's improved so quickly on its own then I'm sure you should be problem free before long.

It would be worthwhile doing some back strengthening exercises however, to try and avoid it happening again.

I ruptured a disc a few years ago and had surgery - no problems at all since - but I am pretty good at doing back exercises and staying fit to avoid a repeat performance.
