Quick update on my H - HE'S HOME YAY!

NumbNuts, 22 December, 2008 at 10:55 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 18

Thanks again for all your support last week. It was certainly much appreciated. I just thought I'd do a brief update!

Well, firstly, he's still in ☹️. They moved him from the surgical ward to the clinical ward on Thursday morning, to monitor him. This basically has involved taking bloods everyday. He found out on Thursday that they suspect he has endocarditis in the past 8 months (despite not really being ill - only 3 days off the week before week with a grotty cold and a day off the week before with the same). This has left perforations in his mitral valve and also some nodules on it, which they werent sure what they were and worried they may still be infected.

Bloods so far has shown no infection. However bar seeing an on call dr twice on the weekend and a couple of student doctors, no one has seen him. No one has explained why he's still in, or what the next plan is - no one available seems to know. We hope this changes today.

So, all in all, it's still very up in the air, and M is getting increasingly fed up and bored (I've been ill too so havent be able to seem him for a few days - he has had plenty of visitors though). It's most difficult because he still feels fine, and has no difficulty undertaking normal activities (which seems to throw the health professionals).

Gosh, I didn't see your earlier post but that sounds really scary for you both. I hope that things improve soon and that they get him sorted out.

Myexperience of HHS hosps is that unless you jump up and down and shout loudly you don't get any clarity or communication at all.

Sorry to hear this NN, I didn't realise he's unwell, I can understand how bl00dy frustrated you must both feel though.

Have to say I feel the same after a very frustrating experience when my father was in hospital.

Hope you can get some answers - is there anyway you can get in there today to try and speak to someone ? I find they tend to speak to family members more than the patients themselves!

Sadly Nick, there just appears to be no one in to jump and down to see. He did that on the first day and finally saw an SHO who didn't really know anything, but everyone else was in surgery (he got woken up at 11pm by the consultant surgeon that day as it was when he got out of surgery). He won't let me go there and scream and shout (I can happily bring out the inner fishwife), and I cant anyway - back at work, I finish at the end of the year and have to finish work to handover, and also manage the builders at home. He's phoning the surgeons PA shortly to get some answers.

I'm really hoping the problem is the time of year as opposed to the hospital, as we've never had these problems when he's been in before.

That is simply rotten for you and husband. Hope he gets some answers soon, one way or t'other. I always think it's the not knowing that's simply horrible and worse. Fingers crossed.

Sounds really rubbish NN surprised they haven't sent him home yet claiming to need the bed for someone else

I really hope he gets some answers soon and they let him home so you can be together

Hope you get all your stuff done at work as well ?

How worrying still for you both, i agree about the needing to make a fuss, those who shout the loudest etc, is unfortunately true in many cases

No, I'm still feeling poo H - better but poo!

He's now started to kick up a fuss. The surgeons PA is going to collar him when he's out of surgery before he goes back in for the afternoon stint, as H doesnt need to wait until 11 to find out whats going on again.

I've told him to phone PALS as they are normally very good there - but he's worried about getting the people who are supposed to be repairing him backs' up!

That's great news...M must be overjoyed (and you as well).

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long to find out when his next op will be but at least he's home for Christmas.

Glad to hear he's home for Christmas! I hope you're right, and it's just the time of year that's got everything so tangled up with the hospital. Fingers crossed for a surgery date in the New Year and less confusion!
