Quorn eaters

lisaloulou, 15 June, 2012 at 11:39 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 19

I made a spag bol with Quorn for the first time last night as I'm back on Weight Watchers and it's a lower point alternative to mince so, despite being a complete carnivore, I thought it was worth a go. It was alright actually but I'm sure a better cook than me could ake it taste nicer.

I just used garlic, onions, corguette, chopped tomatoes, tomatoe puree, dried herbs.

Does anyone have a good receipe (without adding wine or anything fatty) that I could try please? Ta!

I am a Quorn fan and use the mince version all the time. Try adding a splosh of soy sauce to your spagbo mix.

I add a stock cube instead of salt to season - makes it very tasty! I also bulk out with mushrooms, peppers, sweetcorn etc.

We use the quorn mince for stuffed peppers. Fry the mince in fry light with mushrooms, onions, chilli, garlic, paprika, tomatoes, mixed herbs. Stuff the pepper with this mixture then top with sliced light mozzarella, replace the lid of the pepper and bake in the oven for 20 mins- half hour. Delicious!

Quorn singapour noodles are good too

    • 175g pack Quorn mince
    • 2 blocks dried medium egg noodles
    • 3 tbsp hoisin sauce
    • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
    • 2 tbsp rice wine or dry sherry
    • 1 red chilli, seeded and finely chopped
    • 1 tbsp light soy sauce
    • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
    • 4 spring onions, trimmed and chopped
    • 50g mange-tout, halved lengthways
    • 75g beansprouts
    • 125g pak choi, chopped
    1. Begin by heating a saucepan of water and when the water boils, cook the egg noodles as per the back of pack instructions.
    2. Combine the Quorn mince, hoisin sauce, garlic, rice wine, chilli and soy sauce, mixing well, set to one side.
    3. Heat a wok adding the vegetable oil. When the oil is hot, toss in half the chopped spring onions and the mange-tout and fry for a minute, then add the bean sprouts and pak choi, continue to cook stirring all the time for a further minute.
    4. Lastly add the Quorn mince and continue to cook over a high heat for 2 minutes then toss in the cooked drained noodles.
    5. Fork through and serve immediately garnished with the remaining spring onions.

That sounds nice cookie. I have all those ingredients you listed minus the quorn and oil, plus thinly sliced raw chicken and king prawns all boiled up together in a pan to make a delicious chinesey broth! Our current fave dinner we had it tonight!

    WSS.

They make a particularly nice Thai green curry, with low fat coconut milk, some green paste and LOADS of veg.

If I'm making quorn bolognase, I tend to cut a few bits of bacon (no fat) and mix that in too. Always gives it extra flavour but would still be less calorie/points wise than having beef mince bolognase.

Worcestershire sauce in Spag bol is delish and gives the Quorn mince a bit more oomph. We used the chicken style pieces in paella last week when my (vegetarian) Mum was visiting. I thought it was lovely but H disagreed :/

Quick question - we use quorn mince every now and again on Green Days on SW. I've seen a nice recipe for meatballs, but obviously the quorn mince is frozen - how do you shape it into meatballs if it's frozen?!
