Raaaaaaaaaaah - Mother behaviour

HeidiHole, 18 May, 2009 at 16:30 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

My mum has just had my children for the weekend so am loathe to moan about her, but she's just done something to me which is guaranteed to make me wild with rage every time.

She rang me whilst she was at work and her colleagues were in the room with her, she did that horrible horrible manipulative thing of trying to make out I was having a go at her (I wasn't) because people could hear her side of the conversation. I hhhhhhhhhhate that, an ex used to do it to me all the time to try and make me look bad whilst I wasn't there to defend myself.

Now I really have had a go at her. Raaaaaaaaaaaaah!

I'm sending you my sympathies but don't really get what you're saying. I need more info but something's telling me it's food related. I may have the entirely wrong end of the stick but I remember your gripe the last time you left your mum in charge of Wizzy.

No no, it's nothing to do with food.

Her colleagues could hear what she was saying as they were right next to her, we were joking around about something and she started saying "Alright, alright, don't have a go at me just because you're tired", trying to make out to her colleagues that I was telling her off. When I asked her why she was doing that she did the same thing again, telling me not to get aeriated and to calm down. WTF, I was perfectly calm!

It's a really manipulative thing to do to someone, it makes you look bad to the people only hearing one end of the conversation. Grrrrrrr.

There must be a handbook for this for mothers.

Mine did something very similar when we were all out for a family meal the other night. An item that I used to own came up in conversation and I muttered "Yeah, I don't have that any more" (as the ex took it when he left). "Why?" says my mother. Everyone else round the table immediately twigs why, and can see I don't want to explain. She continues to say "Why, Pup, why don't you have it any more? I don't understand" while everyone else makes shusshing sounds. I finally snap and say "Because Ex Mr Pup took it, OBVIOUSLY". Then we have ten minutes of hurt looks from her, sighs and hmphings of "well I didn't know, did I and there's no need to be snappy about it. I was just asking" to turn it, somehow into my fault for upsetting her!!

<makes soothing sounds> deep breaths, HH. Don't let your buttons be pushed!

Oh HH, your mum is really one in a million ?

Sorry, I can't imagine how fecking frustrating that must have been to sit through - if heaven is real, you've got a large GnT and <choose your celeb shag> awaiting for you.
