Rain on the day?

Krys9090, 16 July, 2012 at 15:06 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi ladies bit of an odd question post but i'm really worried about rain on the day! British weather is so unpredictable so no matter what time of year it could always suprise us and rain! Has anyone else taken precautions or embraced the rain if having an outdoor ceremony/reception?xx

If you plan to have an outdoor ceremony, please choose somewhere that has a room that can be used as a back up.

Other than that. buy some white brollies! You can get some fantastic shots in the rain of just the two of you. You can get some cool heart shaped ones.

I would say try and choose a venue that has space inside to take the group pictures and have the drinks reception.

As Kharv says, have a back up plan if you are hoping for an outdoor ceremony and make sure you like the indoor option as much as the outdoor option. We've booked for an outdoor ceremony, but there is a lovely room if it does rain. Also, don't get your hopes up too much and don't have your heart set on the outdoors stuff - I've decided that it probably will rain on my wedding day judging by current conditions, so I'm prepared. Then if it doesn't, bonus!

We chose a hotel where we were happy holding the ceremony, breakfast and evening reception to make sure we could avoid the rain. We wanted to get married in the North where it rains 360 days of the year (probably). My OH actually wants it to rain because he loves the dark and rain! We're right next to the sea so I'll be buying some brollies to make sure we can get some photos on the beach though!

I went to my local pOUNDLAND and bought quite a few clear brollies in case it does rain!! Hopefully being prepared will thwart the rain off!!

This is what I intend to do! As Kharv says, you can get some heart shaped ones which will go nice in photos. I also plan on having some wellies on standby as I am walking to my venue!

It's britain, if you want a wedding with almost guaranteed no rain then you need to go abroad!

We get married in March, I didn't want a summer wedding and hoping that the weather will be good (look at this summer after all) but the last few springs have been quite nice. We'll make sure we have inside places to have photos, will get a few umbrella's if needed and just shrug it off at the end of the day, it's not like you can control the weather so not worth fretting over imo.

We are getting married in November and getting some umbrella's, figure it is better to have them and not use them than to look like drowned rats crossed with Marilyn Manson in all our pictures!

We're getting married next November, and it's almost guaranteed to rain.

I have already bought some wellies, and have my eye on some big golf umbrellas (colourful ones). Where we're having our Reception, we will have a little bit of shelter in the grounds from the trees, but if it is too bad, then the inside is lovely too.

there was a good link from some of the TOGs about wet wedding photos not too long ago which is worth a look

I'm not too bothered if it rains, highly unlikely to be raining non stop through out the day. My only problem is do I buy umbrellas or parasols? Both I suppose?

On one hand it would be nice to have some photo's done outside and so the guests/children can run around in the sunshine. On the other hand our venue are having some building works done on the grounds (not very picturesque) so indoors might work out better.

    Hi everyone,

Always a good idea to prepare for the rain, then if it's a nice day it's a bonus! if you do buy brollies just be aware that bright coloured ones can reflect on to your faces and may give you a strange colour cast in the photos! So better to get ivory / white / clear if you can
