random idea?

thefuturemrsclarke, 11 February, 2010 at 13:42 Posted on Planning 0 18

I read in a magazine about a wedding reception who brought a wicker basket and filled with flip flops so the women could change into them when there feet started hurting and apparently it went down really well.

definatly something a bit different, what other unusal ideeas are people having?

I did indeed do this and must admit I wasn't sure how well it would go down but people loved them, I bought 8 pairs I think (approx 60 girls there in the evening), they were all gone by 7.30. It meant I had to buy myself some flip flops at the airport on Monday as I'd presumed there'd be a pair or two left over from the wedding.

I also put a basket of toiletries and things like nail files, gel pads for shoes, plasters, safety pins, perfume, hairspray in the ladies bathroom and that also went down very well. It was all stuff I wanted on hand for any emergency I may have but then thought rather than hide it all away let it be available to all.

ETA it wasn't very expensive either, Primark, Tescos etc normally do flip flops for £1.50 during the summer.

We have just decided that we are going to unveil the flavour of our baby during OH's wedding speech!

All going to plan, the midwife is going to be able to find out, write the sex down and seal it in an envelope - so its going to be a surprise for us too!

I love the idea of flip flops. May have to price it up and suggest it to my sister in law especially as they are marrying abroad - may be quite apt.

Max - What a fantastic thing to do and add a little extra excitement to your big day. It will really be a day to remember for both you and your guests.

    I love this idea.

Primark already have their flip flops in and they are £1. Sparkly ones in black, white, pink and turquiose blue!

Max - what a wonderful idea!

That's a really good idea Nicola - my future b-in-law did that, and they wrote the names on them and had them as place names/favours in one. It looked great.

I like the idea, but at my wedding i think most guests will be already wearing flip flops!

Max... will you let us know too! Give us a live post as it's happening! ? I suppose we could give you until the next day!

ETA - My guests are getting fans!

We gave our guests paper fans in pink with green ribbon attached, they were incredibly useful because it was boiling hot and I used mine to shade my eyes from the sun.

I did think about flip flops but it would have been too much to take abroad. There are ebay sellers that sell job lots of flip flops which may be worthwhile...but I'd probably get a selection of styles & sizes from Primarni if they're only a quid.

I was going to try and get some pashminas (not real, the cheepy ones) and have them rolled in a basket - our wedding is in the beginning of april and the venue has a large outside area but it may get a little chilly in the evening. just need to find some cheep enough in my colour scheme - don't really want to spend a fortune...
