Random post. Just wondering people's opinions

Hi

My wedding is in a few months time but I'm at the stage where I'm totally stressing to be honest I think it's more because 2 of my friends are getting married a few months after me and when they talk about there weddings I feel like maybe mine won't be as good. I'm a constant worrier and always compare myself to other people I know I really shouldn't.

Anyway the run down of my day is we are going to have a church ceremony at 4 then we should arrive at the Copthorne Hotel for 6ish where we were originally going to just do canapés but I thought it would be to long a wait until the evening buffet so we have decided on afternoon tea which is for around 55people which include tea, coffee, juice, scones, cream, jam etc, cakes, strawberries and cream, vol au vents and upgraded sandwiches (what the difference is to a normal sandwich I don't know lol)

During this time we will do speeches give out presents then the evening guests should arrive and then we'd have our evening buffet which would be mainly hot food haven't decided on what yet as there's a few choices I'm also having the wedding cake given out once cut and having a sweet/dessert table (mainly for the children)

Do you think this would be enough and would people enjoy it? Is anyone else not having a sit down meal?

Also I'm a bit confused as to what time to invite evening guests and start buffet.

I know it can be hard but please dont compare your wedding to others. Every wedding is and should be different, unique and special to that couple. WHat is right and works as a representation for one couple would be totally wrong for another. Lots of couples don't do sit down meals.

You're getting married quite late so your timings sound fine. Afternoon tea is perfect and I'd get your hot buffet going about an hour after your evening guests start to arrive. I think you can ask your evening guests to arrive from 7.30 and do the buffet from 8.30.

It sounds fab so stop stressing lol. x

They cut the crusts off Smiley smile

Sorry, that isn't helpful, I just liked that phrase!

Seriously, it sounds fiiiiine. Afternoon tea sounds excellent to me - I think I'd prefer that to a stiff sit down meal. With regards to timing, just think about it logically - if you have a light meal at 6, what time are you likely to be hungry again? Maybe 9? It might be a good idea to let your evening-only guests know that that's roughly what time the food will be served, so they can have something light at home before they come.

Thank you for your replies I am excited for the wedding and even my friends who are getting married said it's a good idea I'm one of these people that constantly worries lol. But I'm glad people seem to think the afternoon tea is a good idea. I've also put on the invitations to join us for afternoon tea so guests know what to expect. My partner and I weren't fussed about having a sit down meal as it's not really us. Plus what we thought of doing the day after the wedding which will be a Sunday is to have Sunday lunch is the restaurant of the hotel with both our parents and siblings as they have a 3 course meal for £14pp so I thought that would be a nice way to start married life before we go on honeymoon lol.

Also thanks for the advice on the evening buffet time I was thinking around 8 or 9 so maybe half 8 will be a good time x

Ha, to be fair I'm not entirely sure if it is that. It probably means not only that but fancy sandwiches, ie salmon and cucumber rather than cheese and ham, that type of thing.

I think 8.30 would be a good time for evening guests and starting the evening food. Afternoon tea sounds great as a light meal before the evening food. It all sounds really good and the timings work well.

We went to a wedding where the ceremony was at 3pm and we sat down for an afternoon tea at 6pm and then no other food was served apart from some rolls that made the rounds during the late hours but could never be located! The couple didn't put anything on the invites about it just being an afternoon tea so we didn't know whether we would have any food or not and the venue was in the middle of nowhere so we couldn't quietly go and get ourselves some chips! It's something I will always remember about their wedding - which is a shame, so I think it's really good that you are mentioning it on your invites and also providing a buffet later. Well done you.

Thank you, yeah there will be tables/seats for everyone as we are still having the room decorated with centrepieces and favours etc just instead of us sitting down for a main meal it will be afternoon tea. Also my sister is a vegetarian so we will be offering meat free sandwiches as well x
