Random weight question

Knownowt, 17 June, 2009 at 12:36 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

Do other people find their weight can vary by quite a few pounds day to day? This morning I weighed myself and was 3lb heavier than yesterday. I certainly didn't eat 12000 calories yesterday (more like 1500), I weighed myself at the same time (first thing after a wee and before eating/drinking anything) and yet this huge difference....what's the cause?

(I know you're not supposed to weigh yourself every day and presumably this is why.)

Water retention or poo i think

i do also know that there are some foods that make me weigh heavier the next day even if the calorie intake is all the same and it all evens out in the end

Yes, totally, very common. And that's why I never weigh myself anymore, it's far too bad for my mental state ?

Mine can change daily by up to 3 or 4 lbs as I am prone to blaoting and water retention.

Were you wearing different clothes too?

This is the reason I only weigh myself first thing in the morning naked after having a poo - I'm kidding myself I'm nearly half a stone lighter than I really am!

Snap. I only ever jump on the scales every now and then at Mum's house. I have an idea of what I weigh, and by only weighing myself every month or so I cn really see my weight loss. If my clothes fit, then I must be the same. If they're tight, I must be heavier and if they're loose I've lost weight. It's the best gauge as far as I'm concerned. It's vay liberating.

    Yes, totally normal.

Actually, this is why weighing weekly is a bad idea - daily variations can throw things out so you think you've lost when you haven't, or vice versa. Weighing every day is fine, because you can see the bigger picture over time as well as the daily variations, or two-weekly or less frequently.

Janey, I'm ? at the idea of a 3lb poo.

Thanks everyone. Losing weight is so random, I think- half the time you feel super skinny but actually weigh more, then when you feel fat you weigh less. I lost about 3 stone last year and hardly weighed myself at all in that time. Now, having put 10lb on, I'm really hung up about the scales- I suppose a smaller amount to lose means you fret more about the small stuff.

I've stopped weighing myself every week now, i just ocassionaly jump on the sales when i go to the gym but even then it's not regularly. I can't take disappointment, the fact the my clothes don't feel and tighter is an indication that i aren't putting loads of weight on.
