readings...don't know where to start

Princess Bride 2013, 4 May, 2015 at 09:28 Posted on Planning 0 12

We need to pick 2 readings for our church ceremony but we don't have a clue where to start. We know we want one non - religious.

Any suggestions?

We needed the same. I used google and wedding sites. I advise you to read them out loud so you can see how they flow/ how easy they are to read (especially the religious ones) as the person may be nervous.

We are having: Song of Solomon, Chapter 2, verses 10-13; Chapter 8, verses 6&7 as our religious reading.

For our non- religious we are having: I belong in your arms by Deborah Bridea, which we love.

A close second for non-religous was: Marriage Joins Two People in the Circle of its Love
 by Edmund O’Neill

    Hope that helps a bit

I looked on offbeatbride.com and got some great ideas from there!

We wanted something completely different that really fit us! We're going for a quote by Bob Marley and it fits us down to the ground.

Have you chosen the 2 people you want to do the readings? When I asked my cousin and godmother to do our readings, I asked them to pick the readings themselves. My god mother is doing our bible reading and is a practising christian anyway, so she would know the bible better than we would. I can't remember the exact verse, but she is doing the reading from Corinthians that starts 'love is patient love is kind', its quite a popular reading for weddings apparently! I asked my cousin to choose one and keep it a secret from us. I figured that we've planned pretty much the whole wedding ourselves so it'll be nice to have something in the ceremony that's a surprise!

There are loads of helpful websites if you Google.

We had the Corinthans one too and also a non-religious one by Mark Twain. My friend and his sister's fiancé read them.

Could your priest suggest some readings for you if you are struggling? At least for the religious one which I know personally I am finding hardest (I don't want the Corinthians one which is so popular)

Thanks for mentioning The Offbeat Bride. Strongly considering Yes I'll Marry You by Pam Ayres now.

Have you spoken to your Rev. Because I thought you couldn't have nonreligious readings & music at a church wedding. I could be very wrong though.

I found that Pam Ayres poem too and loved it, but think it's a bit too quirky for me and my H2B.

Our church have also requested we have one religious and one secular. We're considering seeing if he'll let us use 'Footsteps in the Sand', but this is more of a teaching of the bible, than an actual bible reading, so we're not sure it will get passed Smiley sad

We're considering lyrics for our secular reading, but it's so difficult to choose!
