real or fake?

sarah8286, 22 September, 2011 at 12:20 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hi I've been looking into the flowers and cant believe how expensive they can be... does it really matter if you have real or false flowers? surely the real ones are only going to last a few days anyway and the false ones can look just as real sometimes?? My theme is daisy/ gerberas in yellow and white. I really want my BMs to carry pomandas too can this even be done with real flowers?

Silk flowers can look so realistic these days, and you could cut costs and hire flower arrangements to decorate your venue. See below the beautiful display that our florist did to adorn our campervan. She hires one of the moptops for just £35 as a guideline!

IMO there isnt anything better than the look and smell of real fresh flowers, we had an artificial flower display in our church, dont get me wrong it was lovely but compared to the real deal it wasnt a patch and clearly fake well to me it was.

Maybe look into other florists, if you havent already. my florist said to be daisy/ gerberas are one of the cheapest flowers but we wanted roses - the most expensive. My bouquet is £120 it is handtied with a bespoke shower etc so that is expensive but some of her brides bouquets are £50 and before you think oh shes rubbish she is part of the wedding professional and everything so she is good! my bridesmaids are having side bouquets which is £20 each and button holes are £25 for 6 and my mum corsage is £20, three topairy balls (you could have daisy) daisys would look gorgeous! they are £26 for 3 linked together with bear grass, we are having them on the registras table and on the buffet table. so all in all our bill is under £300 which is cheap, some people have a budget of £3000+!!! if you want to look its funkyflorists in Derby xxx

There are some lovely silk and foam flowers out there, but some of them do look a bit fake. It's worth spending some time getting quotes from different florists though, I found huge differences - the most expensive was a high street florist who advertised ad a wedding specialist, the cheapest a retired lady who worked out of her spare bedrrom on recommendations.

Silk/artificial is not alwasy a cheaper option though, but at least you can hire topiary and other decorations.

They can definitely be done with real flowers if you preferred. They do work out slightly more expensive in fresh than artificial as they take a lot of flowers but either look just as good. This is a gerbera bouquet I've done recently in artificial ( I don't do fresh anymore now) which has yellow narcissi in, but the other flowers are bluebells, buttercups and crocus. I notice you are in Wakefield - I lived all my life there until getting married but now live in Dewsbury.

    And the pomanders:-

    Hope that helps.

Sure, it will be out at the end of this month so if you would like to email me your address, I will pop you on my mailing list. Ignore any reference to postage on my website/brochure as I do free delivery to Wakefield and surrounding areas.

Agreed. I wasnt even overly fussed about flowers, gave florist a sample of my BM material & my mums outfit material & told her to do what she liked! Our wedding flowers were absolutely amazing & I now have more of an interest!
