real or fake

Elixia, 14 December, 2013 at 22:42 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 15

Xmas trees that is.

I've always geared towards real ones, my fiancee wants a fake one. But I'm starting to sway. the past few years we've lived together real trees have caused a bit of a headache. I think its because most places cut them down late Nov so they can be sold in garden centres, supermarkets and nurseries by the 1st Dec. Meaning by the time its the 24th they a fire hazard and bald! I normally wait till now to get the 12th to get but all thats left for old, worn and beat up ones. other than driving 50 miles to the closest forestry I'm a little outta luck.

I've made it quite clear that if were getting a fake one next year it has to look real, not a cone shape filled with green tinsel. even some that boost to be real looking aren't. when have you seen a star burst fir branch on a real tree? Also I'd still like to get a small potted one just for tradition and the pine smell.

so I'm curious if girls have fake trees and if you know any that are real looking?

If you get a good real tree and keep it watered, it shouldn't become a fire hazard. I'll never go fake, never! I don't care if H is used to them, I just can't do it!

Yeah, we cut an inch off the bottom and have been watering it. but i found water on the floor and assume I had split it when i poured and wiped it up. there was more an hour later so i think i have a leak in the stand and am kicking myself for not checking before putting it up!

I would never have a fake one. We always had a real one when I was a kid and I love the look and smell of a real one. Now that you can get no drop ones, you don't even have to deal with needles sticking in your socks!

We had a real one last year, and again this year. I love the build-up - driving to the field, wandering around looking at them all, and finally picking one and bringing it home.

Love the smell and the fact that it isn't a 'uniform' shape.

I feel sad in January when we have to chop it up though Smiley sad

I have a fake tree and I hate it!

OH outright refuses to buy a real one though, we tried yesterday but after looking in one garden centre he decided they were all too expensive and we should just stick with the fake one we have Smiley sad

    It's just not the same!

What about a compromise? Have the fake one up but buy a £3 tiny real one in a pot from the supermarket (my tesco had them this morning) and bring that in, then re-pot it come 12th night, then grow it all year - ready for Christmas 2014 and so on? Just keep bringing it in until it is too big?

That was discussed, I still want a real one. And a potted one would be good and it would be all mine! Grow it and it back the year after until its too big and make it a permanent feature in the garden.

I'll go against the grain here and say I prefer fake. They're less messy and are nice and even looking. Some of the real trees I've seen on facebook are shockingly bad. I do like the smell though.

Fake. I like the smell of real ones but not so much the look of them. Also my living room is upstairs so it'd be a pain getting a real one in and out. And having a little one, i couldn't be doing with all the needles everywhere.

    Fake.

The idea of bringing a real tree in, that may have loads of bugs in, makes me shudder.

    this!

Fake all the way for me. I like the shape of a fake one, I feel some real ones look so bare. Plus you can pack it away and use it the next year instead of having to get rid of it.

Agree with this. I don't care if they say no drop they still drop needles everywhere! Definitely fake for me.
