Is it just me or does anyone else really not like fake flowers? I dont know if it is a "parent" thing, but my Nan used to have a zillion fake flower arrangements at home and my mom always commented how she didnt like them (not to her face!!) I hate them for the same reason.

But I must admit to having a few very unusual ones that are made out of very thin pieces of ceder wood. They look really real until you are upclose. I just have them poked into a large plant pot with a palm in it, to jazz it up a touch.

To be honest we arnt having that many flowers in our centrepieces so cost/set up time wise it really wouldnt make a difference - but interested to hear other peoples views on the subject ?

The title of the thread is Real V Fake, which implies you'd like a debate. If you had called it, "I don't like fake flowers" you might have got a different thread ?

I really wasn't Trickers, I respect the fact that faux/silk flowers aren't for everyone, I was just adding my view is all.

People have different opinions, Vikster. I don't think you need to apologise. You weren't rude about your preference.

Mind you, there'd be people crying at this thread on other boards...

Exactly what I was going to say on the matter.

Anyway, I'm possibly a weirdo but I don't like real flowers. I LOVE them growing in the garden, but not cut and shoved into vases or bouquets. It just makes me really sad to know that they're going to die and be discarded once they've served their decorative purpose. I can't enjoy them whilst thinking about that. Silk flowers.. well I'd certainly consider them if I wanted something to mimic real flowers but we're going off in an odd direction and having very obviously fake flowers - origami! I'm quite handy with origami stuff and am roping the bridesmaids into making a load of origami sunflowers. I'll use a combination of those, ribbons and butterfly brooches and pins I've been collecting to make my bouquet. Centre pieces will be a simple basket or vintage tin/flower pot with some in, placed on top of classic board games. The idea is that the flowers get moved out of the way later in the evening and then everyone can play the different games. Should be an interesting ice breaker!!

Sammyjay they sound very unusual, I'd love to see your finished bouquet and centrepieces.

I watched four weddings US the other night and one of the girls on that had a bouquet made out of fabric and buttons and I thought it looked great.
