Realistically, when should I be planning things?

AmyandRoss, 4 April, 2014 at 12:10 Posted on Planning 0 14

Our wedding is 11months away and we've sorted our venue so far (Notley Abbey). Included in that is the ceremony, catering, drinks and suites. When should I be making a start on everything else? I don't really have any help available (I only have male family members left and the majority of my friends are male lol). I'm having 3 adult bridesmaids (they're are snowed under with work) so I'm guessing dress shopping etc I'll be doing alone.

Ive vey no idea where to start. I'm fairly laid back and I'm the last minute Queen but I don't think I can wing that this time, what with it being our wedding day and all lol.

What's a typical time scale (if there is such a thing)?!

HELP!

    Hi,

Regarding wedding dress shopping alone, I found my dream dress alone and I was still excited and very very happy.

I had gone to 3 other shops with sister/friend, but the last two I went alone, and on the 5th shop found the one. My sister/friend is coming back with me to try my actual dress on, when it comes in June. So dont worry about shopping alone if you have to. Each time I treated myself to a yummy latte and cake.

    Good luck with planning. x

I'm getting married in 13 months time and so far I have church, venue - including food and drink, dj, possibly photographer and meeting with florists next week. I also have bm dresses, save the dates are ordered and I'm looking at dresses. The little bits and bobs, favours, decor etc I will leave for a whole yet. If I were you I'd start thinking about photographer and entertainment as I believe these book up quite quickly. Good luck!

Thank you for the replies ladies :-). Yikes, I guess I should be pulling my finger out a tad!! Haha. I've not even thought about the entertainment route, let alone who to book lol. Xx

Anything that needs "booking" ideally you should probably start looking into sooner rather than later if you're getting married on a weekend date. The fact that it's kind of out of peak season should hopefully mean that there's still good availability for many suppliers though, so don't be concerned Smiley smile

If you're not sure where to start bullet point your main "must haves" and prioritise those which typically book far out- such as photographers, videographers etc

You'll be fine, one thing at a time! Congratulations too?

Hi - I'd suggest you start thinking about photographer as well as your dress. It really depends what style of wedding etc you're having and how likely you are to need suppliers that get booked up early Smiley winking

I've not thought about a style etc. I'm really not very good at all this. The venue is very pretty so I guess everything needs to follow suit. Xx

Thank you. I just want my family and friends to have a great time... If I could look fabulous too, that would be a bonus haha. I run my own accountancy business so numbers is my thing really. Set a budget of £25k but no idea what that'll get us. I don't want to go over that as I'd like to pay for it ourselves without having to pay for anything on credit. I've a 4 year old, 2 year old and 1 year old to try to juggle with the planning and work too so I'm not sure if I'll ever get time to feel "weddingy".

    Xx

Hello & welcome to hitched ?

I always say get started with your lists, i'm a huge list lover and write down everything.

Prioritise what you both want like photographer / videographer, band or dj or other entertainment you have in mind like photobooths etc?

Transport, are you having wedding cars hired? Looking for a dress & accessories, cake maker & make up artists etc.

There's a good little to-do list on here that helps too and gives you an idea of how to prioritise everything and when to give notice etc.

It'll all fall into place, I wish i'd have started planning a lot earlier though so i'd say start as soon as you can especially when you have the little ones to deal with Smiley smile

You'll definitely feel "weddingy" nearer the time, the planning can be very exciting as well as stressful but try and enjoy! Stick around here, lots of good help & tips Smiley smile

    Thank you everyone.

Looks like I need to free a chunk of time up and have a good few hours scanning the internet.

Our venue is Notley Abbey. Www.notleyabbey.co.uk

    Thank you very much.

i really like what's been done with the fairy lights. I'll have to ask them about them to see if it's something they do or if I need to sort it.

I know you said you've booked your ceremony at your venue, but did that include the registrar?

I booked the venue first and then found out that the only time the registrar had free on the day was 3.30pm which is a bit late for what I wanted!! Ah well, I get the date I wanted, so it'll be ok.

But yes, I digress, if you haven't yet, book the registrar!
