really good pedicure?

glynbo, 19 February, 2009 at 20:19 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

After months of wearing boots and high heels to work etc i have alot of dry skin on my feet - would it be wise to go to a chiropodist rather than a beauticians for a pedicure?

I went last summer to a beauticians and the pedicure involved, feet soaked and quick foot file, nails tidied up and painted - although I have seen others that offer parafin wax pedicures etc which may be better.

I have a paraffin wax pedicure about once every 8 weeks or so which left my skin feeling lovely and soft.

I've also been using Soap and Glory's Heel Genius which I use every night which has helped with my dry feet.

A good pedicure will include a really thorough exfoliation - using either a razor or an electric foot file. Some pedicurists use a manual pumice, but I find this doesn't have anywhere as good a result. I'd ring your therapist and ask how they exfoliate. All the parafin wax treatments in the world won't help if you need a good scrub - which is principally why I have a pedicure. The soaking and nail tidying I can do - a good go with the razor is what I'm there for.

Edited to add - unless you have deep cracks in your heels, in which case I'd be tempted to go to a chiropodist first.

Thanks you two - great advise - i'll phone around a couple to see what they offer in the way of razor (eek) or electric foot file and then I really must get into a routine of applying cream before I go to bed. the mild weather has reminded me that it wont be long until i can get some flip flops on again.

If you can bear it, lather your feet in aqueous cream just before bed and put socks on. Your feet will warm up and absorb the cream better. Or you can warm some sunflower oil to body temperature and soak your feet in it. Both really good for treating really dry feet.

The heated sunflower oil sounds quite nice - I'll give that a go.
