Reasonably priced boudoir shoots?

Mrs-S-to-be, 9 September, 2014 at 16:47 Posted on Planning 0 21

So I'd love to get a boudoir shot but when googling I've seen some crazy prices of hundreds of pounds. I get the importance of good photographers, and totally justify how much I'm spending on mine for the wedding day, but I feel like this could be a lot cheaper?

Does anyone have any recommendations of anyone who isn't going to charge a fortune? I'm in London but don't mind travelling x

Sorry I don't. I used Envy in London for mine but wouldn't particularly recommend them. The photos were soso and although the deal was a groupon deal with one print for £19 any additional photos were very expensive. 5 digital prints were £400.

So if you do book one, check how much the additional photos are going to be. I get the impression that the ones set up as pure boudoir photoshoots are expensive but you may be able to get a normal TOG to do a cheap session on an evening for you. Would be extra money at a time they may not be booked anyway. I think someone used Daffodilwaves on here and had some good ones?

You get what you pay for to be honest, getting anyone to take them that hasn't done them before then you are taking a risk of just getting snaps that you could of taken yourself. go to a proper boudoir photographer who has the experience and does it day in day out and knows how to get the best out of you, they will know how to relax you to get some stunning photos, honestly it will be worth it.

    I had one today!

I'd had a groupon one booked but it was going to be £65 a photo and I couldn't afford it so asked my tog and he charges £60 for all the photos on a disk or £100 if you want it done in a hotel room which I thought was a bargain! I won a Facebook comp so got mine for free! He takes 2 hours and took 240 photos. He's on shrewsbury if your interested xx

It was actually quite fun! I was so nervous at first but he told me every position to get in and when to look at lense/floor so it wasn't too tricky! He showed me everytime he'd taken a few and I actually looked quite good! Really didn't like my stretch marks out though so we did a few lying down ones and fuzzy that you couldn't see and the rest I wore corsets xx

In my experience of looking for a boudoir shoot and then having one I would disagree with this. If you find a TOG who does this in their own studio then yes what you are paying for is the experience of the TOG. However, photoshoots in London when I was looking are big business and the ones I found were not run by TOGs. The hair, makeup artist and TOG are all drafted in for the day to do the shoots - so what you are paying for is the profit of the person who organised it. I heard the TOG chatting to someone whilst I was in the changing room (she didn't realise I was there) and they were talking about where paid what. I got the impression they weren't paid much at all for their involvement.

The one I had at Envy was expensive - £400 for 5 prints - but there is no way it was worth that. I was on a conveyor belt of people going through photoshoots that day. The MUA was ok but a bit amateurish. Hair again ok. I saw the TOG for about twenty minutes tops. Then it was who I am guessing was the owner who showed me the photos and did a bit of photoshopping. She gave me the hard sell in her office. She was the only one who I saw that day who was wearing flashy clothes and a rolex.

If you want all the faff of the MUA etc that goes with it then these are fine - but be aware that the final prints may not be as good as going to a TOG who specialises in this and maybe where you need to do your own hair and makeup.

You went to the wrong place?, as you said they were not a proper boudoir company, just another system trying to milk it from un-suspecting clients. We get it all the time, I have heard it all before, the conveyor belt shoots are bad for the industry, we get clients coming to us after they have already been to one of these companies and telling us all about this way of working, they are in it for the money which is completely different to someone that has been shooting boudoir for over 10 years in a private studio especially set up for boudoir.

We also do makeover photo shoots and get the same story every time when a client comes to us about the conveyor belt system, they never like it and I'm not surprised, seated for the mua to do touch up then in the next seat for a minute for hair then in one set for one photo all the while all the other people waiting for there shoot can see what is going on, its in personnel and nothing like going to an established company, these companies offer a very low sitting price or run a competition where every one wins.

When ever looking for a shoot like this always do your research, there are horror stories on the net and if more people did a little research before going to one of these companies then they will find a proper company and enjoy the experience rather than feeling ripped off.

I am paying just under £400 for a half day session - make up and photos, and that then gives me 24 in a leather bound book. This is a TOG who has many years experience and who is one of the few in our area who specialise in boudoir photographs. I would have gulped at the price, but I have been lucky enough to have a trial shoot with her, when she was doing 1 framed photo + make up as a valentines "offer" with a local lingerie boutique near my office. It cost me £25, so I thought it was worth doing - if I hated the experience/end result, then I had saved myself £400 on the full thing, but if I loved it, I would be going into the full session with a bit more confidence. Plus, the £25 I have already paid is deductable from the full £400 - win win situation!

I loved the experience and the photo for valentines day - and OH was rather pleased with it too! Therefore, I didn't hesitate to commit myself to the full £400 job knowing I will get a good amount of prints for my money, and I know she isn't going to concentrate on my cellulite or stretch marks!!

Yes, its expensive, and like everything it could be a cost you regret, or could have got cheaper elsewhere - it will very hugely from area to area and experience to experience. I'm very much looking forward to mine in April, and even more looking forward to seeing the end result!

I did do some research before I booked. There were a few bad reviews on tripadvisor but also some good ones. I also called them up and spoke to them about boudoir photography and they talked through how it was a private room with various backdrops specifically for boudoir which was all true. Their website is all very professional and has plenty of boudoir photos. When I was having the photos taken it was just me and the TOG and there were various things like the chaise longue etc. Its all very well as a professional TOG saying 'people should know' - when you are looking for something you have never experienced before it is extremely difficult to know what to avoid and why. When a company advertises itself as experienced in boudoir photography and has plenty of photos of exactly that it is very easy as an unsuspecting customer to think they you ARE getting a professional boudoir shoot.

I didn't say 'people should know', I said people should do some research, if someone did a search for one of those London boudoir companies I bet you will see a ton of bad reviews on them.

    I used to do boudoir.

When I did I would offer two options. A studio shoot where they did their own makeup, hair and so on. Or one with a boutique hotel, natural lighting, professional hair and makeup and so on.

One was £150 and a one hour session. The other £600 and a four hour session. The Hotel charged me £150, the make up £50, hair £50. So I made £350 for four hours, the travel costs and the days of post production after.

That isn't expensive or over priced.

The £600 option was high end, magazine quality boudoir. The other, harder lit, harder to post process and less flattering boudoir.

Everyone went for the cheapest option which had the lowest quality results. They also had the highest possible expectations about my photoshop ability so I stopped doing boudoir entirely as it wasn't where I wanted to be as far as a final product went.

I strongly recommend anyone who is considering going for a boudoir shoot to spend out on something worthwhile with a guaranteed number of edited images at the end of it. The knock on effect of bad boudoir photography can be exceptionally hard on your body image and can potentially make you feel worse.

Or just not have one at all.

The proof is in the pudding as they say, if you find an established boudoir photographer that has been doing it for years then it tells you that they are doing it right, customer service, quality of images, pricing although not everyone is out to rip people off, some of us do it because we love doing it and seeing the clients are over the moon with the results = referrals = future business or should I say staying in business.

A lot of new photographers start doing them thinking they can make a good living from it but soon find out that the work involved (cellulite removal, blemishes removed, stretch marks etc), just isn't worth it and soon give up, They get models who can pose in to promote the business but when it comes to a real client they fall flat on there face, its down to the person and how they feel about people, giving 110% and making the client confident is the main goal of any business for them to succeed.

Right I have said all I wanted to say? I need to get back to editing weddings? but above all, any one thinking of having one please do some research, you may get lucky with a new photographer but then again you may not and if the results are terrible then think of what that can do to your confidence.

I have booked my shoot through For your eyes only - they have 3 branches and all nearish to London I think although they may have some further North.

I really like the fact its all women as I will feel more comfortable and they have some great reviews in wedding magazines etc..

I have paid just under £400 (But got some money off with a special offer they had on)... this includes a 2 hour shoot, make up and 10 prints as well as an online gallery.?

Sometimes the prices can be quite high due to the experience and location of photographers, but there are definitely ways to find more affordable options without sacrificing the experience.

As others have mentioned, checking out newer photographers or those offering special deals might be a great option. Also, look outside Central London for better rates—sometimes a little travel can make a huge difference in price. Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for shorter sessions or different packages to better fit your budget. Many photographers are happy to work with you on pricing.

Most importantly, make sure to choose someone whose style resonates with you. Boudoir is such a personal experience, so feeling comfortable with the photographer is key! And, if you’re looking for a way to turn your boudoir shoot into something even more fun, you could consider selling custom prints or personalized items featuring your photos—like the best print on demand products to sell , such as custom photo books, framed prints, or other keepsakes. Best of luck finding the perfect shoot, and enjoy the experience!
