Reception Band - prices?

Bride2beebe, 31 October, 2013 at 09:36 Posted on Planning 0 20

Hi there,

I was hoping someone could advise me on what is a reasonable price to play for a band to come and perform for a couple of hours at a wedding reception.

My search is finding a mixed bag of results, anything from £700 to £1500, and all with mixed reviews. The more expensive the band, the better they are? Im confused.

Any help, or even recommendations on bands, (willing to play in cheshire) would be appreciated. Smiley smile

xx

We paid £1000 for a band called The Dollars - they were amazing.

I went to a wedding the other week and they had a band called Munch who were also fantastic.

    Both travel.

    Hi,

We booked a great band called The Spectrum. We booked them after finding them on Hitched!

They are really nice guys who play a great mix of music, just what you want at a wedding!

The come with a DJ too and our dancefloor was just full and amazing!

I guess it depends how far they have to travel with the price? I think we paid around £1000 (Hubby did all the money!!!!!)

    Good luck!

    X

We paid £935 for a band called Captain Caveman, we got them through Warble entertainment - worth a look as they have all sorts of bands with a range of prices. Our band also did a dj option for the same price and travelled from Milton Keynes to Leeds. And they were amazing. For us, having a band was really important and it was worth spending a little more for a good band.

Thanks Ladies, definitely worth a look and listen at all the above mentioned.

Whats about string quartets and going rates? Again, they all seem to vary in price.

We are going with a band called The Soul Boys who are from Warrington so fairly local to you. We wanted Munch but they were booked on our date, I loved their name!

    Hi,

Quotes will depend on how many musicians there are in the band, and generally the more you pay the better experience you will have. (Experience, quality of PA system, lights, professionalism)

Again same for string quartets, but instead of PA system your paying for the high standard of musicianship, their rehearsal time, learning of requests.

If your being quoted less than £800 for a 5 piece band I would say you wouldnt be getting the ones who will really make your night and engage with the audience, keeping them dancing and having fun Smiley smile

Let me know if I can help!

In London you can easily be looking at £5k for a 6 piece band - so £1500 seems very reasonable!

Just make sure that whatever band you choose has a variety of instruments, eg drums, sax, guitar, etc. 2 singers can also be great, esp 1 male and 1 female.

Prices vary enormously depending on experience, number in the band, distance to travel, agents fees etc.

We've done all our booking direct: our ceilidh band charge 950 through an agency for our area (they are local). I'm paying a lot less as we referenced the festival we'd seen them at and they are based literally 25 mins from our venue. Also we were able to be flexible with times and they had a daytime festival booking on the same day.

I have high recommendations for The Beavers who are absolutely awesome! They had all the guests up on the dance floor all night.
I'm pretty sure they travel too. x

As with everything adding wedding pushes money up... my OH is a musician in a great band (played around the world with several big name rock stars) they get £300 - £400 per gig but for a wedding it would easily be £1000+ (they never do stuff like that though because they hate it)

odd how the prices jump so much... most band in a club get an average pay of £300-£400 (£50-£100 per member ? which is rediculously low when you find out the cost of equipment and insurance)

Maybe I'm being naive but what's stopping you just booking them for an 'event,' to save a bit of money? If you're saying the price goes up as soon as you say 'wedding'? I'd be tempted not to tell the band if that's the case!

Our band was called The Recollection. They're in Liverpool but will travel in the north west. They did two sets plus a DJ until 2am, and the lead singer did an hour's piano set in the afternoon. The whole lot cost £1000.

    They were AMAZING!

    Hi there

depends what you want but we would go out for between 850-1500, that depends on set length, if you wanted a DJ set and location of course.

We're a registered supplier here and have played for many folks from the forum, all happy with our straight forward pro service.

We like to keep the dance floor full so we have something for everyone on our set list. Happy to send a quote, just send an email to the site below

    Thanks

    J?
