Reception drinks

Daisyday, 23 March, 2014 at 17:50 Posted on Planning 0 8

Afternoon all!

We have to provide our own alcohol for the wedding and am trying to come up with imaginative and cheap ideas for the initial reception that are a bit different from Pimms.

How do you keep everyone happy and what kind of quantities would you need for 65 guests?

All tips very welcome!

We're going for a mixture of arrival drinks, probably bottles of beer, prosecco, peach Bellini (the venues signature cocktail) and fruit juice for the kids. I think our venue will put out a quantity of each.

Mr K's cousin got married a couple of years ago, and their RSVP card had a box to tick for which arrival drink we wanted. Granted it was either lager or Buck's Fizz, so you could pretty much guarantee that the women would have Buck's Fizz and the men lager!

Bellini is a nice idea...thanks! Our caterers keep offering to help and provide multi ingredient cocktails so that could be easy and elegant!

Might be worth going for a couple of crates of beers too....

Is it a summer or winter wedding?

You could have champagne, red / white wine, pimms (all different flavours depending on season) & mulled wine again depending on time of year. Bucks fizz always goes down well too I think Smiley smile

I'm not sure on quantities for that amount of wedding but i'd probably buy more than needed to make sure there's enough and sure it wouldn't be wasted Smiley smile

I must admit I think bucks fizz is pretty boring, and if you can bring in your own alcohol, you can be a lot more imaginative

We had kir royale for reception drinks, although instead of champagne had prosecco so could afford to provide a lot more of it. It's just fizz with a smidgen of crème de cassis, which is a gorgeous blackcurrant liqueur.

The other poster's suggestion of a bellini is great suggestion.

It's for July this year, managed to find some great Prosecco for the toasts so could simply buy more and add a twist to it. Could also have plain fizz too as an option and soft drinks...

Something light and fresh is the aim!

I was also going to suggest bellinis, yum. You can get large cartons of really nice peach puree in Lidl.
