Reception going home time...

Aimz87, 22 February, 2013 at 15:09 Posted on Planning 0 16

Hey everyone,

First post so please be gentle with me...

We have provisionally booked our wedding for 15th August 2014 with our venue, but had a quick question. On the day the venue has said that music has to go off at 11.30 and everyone out by midnight. This seems really early to me, especially as a lot of our evening guests are mid 20's and will want to celebrate properly.

So my question is. What time did everyone else day finish/due to finish?

I was wondering if its possible to extend a license for another hour (I just want the day to last as long as possible ?) Has anyone else done this, what were the costs/work involved?

Thank you in advance

Amy x

Hi - I'm getting married next April and I have the same problem, the venue is beyond perfect but I am a little gutted about this early finish HOWEVER everyone has warned me that we will be shattered, plus a way around it is to start the weddign earlier so midday and then dinner finishes early and get the party started early evening :-)

Think they charge between £500 - £1000 an hour (varies from venue to venue) to get the licence for later party x

We paid for an extra hour (£50) so they stopped serving at 1am. Not all venues do this so it's best to check with them. Be cheeky, see if they'll consider it

One venue we looked at had a £300 charge from midnight to 1am. Definitely worth asking :-)

Oh really wow I didn't think it would be that much. I know the day guests will probably go early it was more for the evening guests. I was thinking of starting the evening at 6 but doesn't really give people much chance to get in, changed and then arrive..hmmm I just dont know!

6-11.30pm is still quite alont time for an evening reception. Most of my mates would be more than hammered in that time!

    What time is your ceremony?

I was worried about this as our venue had exactly the same timings as yours and offered no extensions.

However, our ceremony was at midday and it was actually the perfect finish time. We had a few drinks back at the hotel (no rooms at the venue) but were in bed by about 1am.

ETA: We started our evening reception at 6pm.

See about possibly extending. Our reception ends at midnight, but there is a hotel bar available for staying guests and that apparently will stay open as long as there are people wanting to be served.

Ours is everyone out by midnight, but we also have the whole castle booked for the night, so anyone staynig is welcome to relocate to the billiards and music rooms for drinks and a game of pool before bed.

Ours finishes at midnight, for a moment I was worried as we like a good night out but considering a lot of us will be starting early (ceremony at 1pm) I actually think it's a good time. I'd rather the party finished with everyone still ok rather than way past it! We're stopping over as are a few others so we can have drinks in the hotel if we want.

We were able to extend the end time from 11.30pm to midnight for £200 I think.

Our bar closed at 11.30, but we had gone home an hour earlier - though in hindsight I might not have done this. Some of our guests continued the party in their rooms, but I don't think anyone minded the relatively early finish. We had our ceremony at 1.30 and our evening reception started at 6.30, which I don't think was too short.

Ours will finish at 11:30, but because we have exclusive use (it's a small country house hotel), I think the people that are staying will just carry on in their rooms etc if they want to! I know I'll be exhausted by then as our ceremony is at 12noon and I'll have probably been awake since 6am knowing me!
