Reception Music

pink1908, 21 June, 2011 at 15:13 Posted on Planning 0 11

I was just wondering what music you were having for your wedding reception??

Just for background music whilst eating... I want to play a few CDs but have no idea what to have?? The venue has classical stuff but would be nice to have a CD on that people can relate to.. and plus we can keep it then!

TIA xxx

We're making our own selection based on our favourite music, suggestions by friends that can't come along, and songs that remind us of friends and family no longer with us.

It'll be on random play and about 2 hours worth so it'll probably repeat some of the songs during the day but that doesn't really matter as it's only background music.

We're toying with having something special "before the ceremony" (trawling through hours of Ralph Vaughan Williams at the moment), then the background music for the wb and the evening before the speeches, then between speeches and first dance with a small interruption whilst we cut the cake.

We are having Piano music, it will sit nice with the older generation coming and also I think its perfect for our venue location and the day we want.

I think we are going to make a CD too, with a mixture, easy listening like Vikster says!

Someone on here recommended the Vitamin String Quartet the other day. They do all sorts of stuff (modern stuff, tributes to various artists, even a Glee tribute album!). We're thinking about having a couple of their CDs. Nice and easy to listen to but also stuff that people will recognise without the words being sung.

We sent cards out with our invitations asking for each person's fave love song. We're gonna put them all onto discs and play them through the milling around and wedding breakfast. At least then we'll guarantee that there will be something everyone likes and I like the idea of everyone having an input into our day.

We're having a harpist during the ceremony and drinks receptions afterwards. We have been told that we can provide our own CD's or the venue can provide background music during the wedding breakfast but haven't had chance to give this bit much thought yet. Good idea asking the guests what their fave songs are but knowing some of our guests Tracy Chapman will be followed by Boyzone and then Metallica - perhaps not ideal whilst having our meal! x

We had lots of ratpack music (i think - i know this is what we asked for but i can't remember if anything was even played!!)

i find that a bit of frank sinatra, dean martin, etc is always good background music cos its easy listening and songs that people know!

my cousin had a harpist at hers and she played well known songs, and songs from the shows but on the harp so it was almost a classical feel to it (i'm not suggesting to get a harpist, but classical versions of well known songs is another option!!!!)

We downloaded a lot of their songs and made 2 discs to play in the background. A lot of people said they loved it - and one of OHs friends has asked us to do a copy for his wedding in the summer.
