recommendations for party tablewear etc

muffins, 7 April, 2009 at 15:57 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

I am planning my 40th party for June, I have booked the caterers, venue, ordered invitations so feeling reasonable organised, however I now need to order the plates, cutlery, table cloths, napkins etc, I am happy with disposable stuff but dont want to spend an absolute fortune as the expence of this party is already growing daily!! but want it to look nice, I have started to look online and have possible looked at too much stuff now! and wondered if anyone could recommend any sites or have ideas for what I would need!

Ideally i am stuck with the sort of plates I need, plastic, paper, ploysterene etc, whats the best for tablecloths- paper, plastic etc,

It is a hot and cold buffet for about 70, no theme atm, possibly just a summery one but no firm ideas!

i have never done my own party before or sorted one on this size (have done dinner parties but thats so different!)

Thanks for any help, I am now just getting confused and need some direction!!!!!!?

Maybe not what you want but I always hire things. It costs about £3.75 for a linen cloth and about 12p per crockery or cutlery item. I return dirty and pay 10% extra.

If you must have disposable then polystryrene are about the best and I use wooden cutlery rather than plastic if I have to. The only dispo cloth I have used for a grown up party is the stuff on a roll that feels like linen but that is as expensive as hiring cloths really.

    Whereabouts are you?

Ikea has some gorgeous paper plates etc in lime greens and aqua with a flower pattern all over. Comes with matching table clothes and napkins - really nice and summery.

I used www.partybox.co.uk when I organised my H's 40th birthday last year. I bought cheap white paper plates from Sainsbury's but ordered my coloured napkins from here (we went for a pale blue and silver theme) and I got loads of decorations from here too.

i had not thought of Ikea, those plates look lovely and the tablecloths were very reasonable too, did the napkins match? as I could not find them on the internet.

    Thanks for the replies. xx
