Recording the planning experience

AmyRobbs, 25 April, 2014 at 15:42 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

I'm fairly new to the forum, been lurking a while but finally decided to join. My OH and I are getting married next year in July and I'm loving planning so far (I might have changed my mind by this time next year) but don't feel like I'm making the most of it. So I thought about the idea of maybe doing a scrapbook but then I decided that might be a bit of a hassle rather than a nice experience, but a friend of mine suggested writing a blog and uploading pictures and ideas along the way. I really like the idea as that way I can see how my ideas evolved and changed and I won't forget anything and I'll have something to look back at after the wedding. I've never done anything like this before and I'm sure loads of others will have so I'd really appreciate some tips. I'm thinking about using 1&1 as they look easy to use which I need. So what advice do people have? Is this a good way to track the planning experience? Are there things you wish you'd kept track of and recorded? I'd love to hear from others

I've blogged for years on wordpress ... I really like it, so very easy to use, but then I've never used any other. I toyed with the idea of blogging the WP process but then I bored myself just thinking about it (I mean I wouldn't want to go back and read all my old ramblings on the subject, not that you shouldn't do it)

    Oh God no. Best forgotten!

Why not just write it in a diary?

I'm of no use whatsoever when it comes to blogging - I am doing a scrapbook lol.

My scrapbook will become my wedding album with pages of planning followed by pictures of what we actually have so I'm enjoying the process - I've been writing down my thoughts and feelings, what works and what doesn't and I've got almost all the planning pages done now.

Can't wait to fill it with the actual pictures!!!

I use blogger for marketing at work. Really easy to use and if you're unsure on something there are lots of videos to help explain things Smiley smile

I just have a 'wedding folder with USB'. I was going to scrap-book the whole thing from the outset, and I made a start but pretty soon realised that as things develop plans change and it wasn't long before my first scrap book attempt bore no resemblance to the wedding we will end up having. it was just pages and pages of badly thought out ideas.

Instead I save receipts, pictures, photos in my folder and images ideas and links I don't want to forget on my USB, so that I have a central place to refer back to. I may or may not go back and do a complete scrapbook from engagement to wedding day as a project when it's all over, but that will just be for me. I like to read blogs, but I don't think I'm interesting enough or tech savvy enough to write one! (Although having said that a few friends have commented that our wedding planning story thus far would make a great romcom!)

My friends made me a scrapbook for my ideas as an engagement gift. I haven't used it. At all.

I can't imagine that in years to come I shall want to sit down and flick through a scrapbook of every idea I ever had but didn't use.

Why not just create a pinterest account to keep track of all your ideas, then you could always make a scrapbook of the final ideas that you use afterwards?
