Redundancy and job hunters kleek

Redbedhead, 15 January, 2009 at 15:05 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

Any graduates? Unfortunately I imagine there are a few new members at the moment.

Anyone had any good news?

I have 2 interviews next week, although sodding typical H is away on a course so I have no childcare. However luckily my fab Mum is taking 2 half days to help me out, so need to think of a nice thank you gift for her. Both of the jobs are quite good - one is more interesting, but further away and the money isn't so good. The other is 5 miles away, better money, could be a bit boring but will look good on my CV. Either way I am doing both of the interviews so fingers crossed.

The one I interviewed for last week I didn't get. They said it was very close and the Director really liked me but someone came along that had years of experience in the industry so they decided to go with him. This was the interview though where they asked me if I was planning any more children though so who knows if that is all of the reason! Either way I am glad I know as they did say they weren't going to make decisions until mid Feb.

Good luck with your interviews - and at least you know about the job last week. The worst thing for me is the waiting.

I've applied for 2 jobs and am waiting to see if I get an interview. There's very little out there for me at the moment and I am starting to get very worried. I really need to be working very soon. It's getting to the stage where I am considering applying for jobs that are being advertised with a 50% cut in salary. H has told me to hold off on those for a couple of weeks but it may come to that.

I agree - I just find it so frustrating. Feels like I am permanently in limbo at the moment.

    Can I join the kleek?

I am jobless, handed in my notice in Dec and am now looking.

Nothing really in the pipeline yet apart from a few phone chats which aren't inspiring me...

Finding it hard to stay motivated as it's so bloody quiet out there at the moment... I'm okay I think till mid Feb/end of Feb ish but the sooner the better.

Good luck to others who are looking and have interviews lined up ? x

Have registered with one agency, and have sent my CV to another five or six. Two have said that it's quiet at the moment - and I've had to tell three the reasons why I'm looking for work. (Given notice on Monday & have raised grievance against employer.) Am hoping this won't count against me.

It really shouldn't do, if you've been honest and given them an idea of the reasons why they shouldn't count it against you. Fingers crossed for you.

Have people tried online job sites as well as speaking to agencies? The online ones list hundreds of roles but it's hard finding the good ones through all the rubbish ones.

I'm using several online sites - I check them daily. Some are more user-friendly than others where you can specify minimum salary and date posted but some I have to trawl though hundreds of jobs that have no relevance to what I'm looking for.

The 2 jobs I have applied for I found online, although one is via an agency.

    It shouldn't do, but ......

All I've said is that I've been given notice, the reason given by the company & that I disagree, and have put in a grievance. Not much else I can add. The problem is that any future employers will have no way of knowing whether I've been treated badly, or I'm just a trouble-maker. (And how many people want to hire a trouble-maker?)

Snap, I hate it. Well I've had a definite no for a position I interviewed for last week and haven't heard anything yet from the one I had on Monday. They'd said that they would let the candidate know by the end of the week so I take it it's a no. Nothing ese lined up at the moment and feel a bit crap about it however....

I've booked in for a course on setting up my own business. Gulp. It's something I've talked about for about 7 years but I've always made excuses but I've decided that I need to pursue this at least to get it out my mind if it isn't the right thing. It's a free four day course called opening doors and seems pretty intense (it's run by a non profit group called Women in Rural Enterprise on behalf of BusinessLink)

I've also gone back to the company that I got a no for last week (can't afford to take anyone on but said that if they could it'd be me) and said that if the situation changes at any point in the future or if I can help in a freelance capacity just to let me know.

Finally there was a pretty positive article in the Guardian last week http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2009/jan/10/recession-job-hunting (sorry can't seem to do links) which was what kicked me in the arse about exploring going freelance. It's worth a read

Good luck with the interviews RBH, the childcare thing is a nightmare isn't it? Mr 'Dingo and my mum have both had to take time from work and I'm calling favours in from friends all over the place.

Well next friday is my Air Traffic Controllers Assessment, so a nice little trip into London. Then have my Etihad Cadet Pilot assessment next month, but looking into it there are about 1200 people at my stage, for about 12 to 24 positions! But you gotta be in it to win it as they say!

I received a lot of paperwork from Thomas Cook yesterday. I got a course number, but no date that it will start, but would still prefer bmi as it is a lot more money and a permanent contract! Saying that I wouldn`t mind being at TCX for a couple of months then go over to bmi.

RBH at least you are getting interviews, which is positive.

Well, that's the shop shut. I go and sign on on monday. Have an application in for ELC as their assisant manager, just waiting to see if I get an interview or not. Still waiting on the council getting back to me for interviews too.

Though for the rest of today, I'm hiding under the duvet.
