Redundancy/ benefits/ pregnancy etc - help!

Goldfish, 13 August, 2009 at 12:23 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 1

Hi - am after some advice if possible.

Was made redundant end of July and am 19 weeks pregnant now - i haven't 'signed on' yet and am not really quite sure how to do this - the job centre website is not very helpful.

my mum has now started going on about paying national insurnace 'stamps' - i've got no idea what she is talking about and having worked full time for the last 9 years i've never given it much thought but now she has me worried. I know i can claim maternity allowance from 26ish weeks but i'm not sure what else i should be doing, if anything?

I am not actually going to look for a job now as my redundancy and pay in leiu will see me through plus savings and i think i'm pretty limited in what jobs i could get (i know legally you can't be turned down for a job because you are pregnant but in reality i'd only work for a couple of months before stopping anyway)

sorry that has turned into a bit of a ramble - any help grealty appreciated.

thanks v much.
