Redundancy consultation rights

Redbedhead, 10 August, 2009 at 19:58 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

I have checked on the BERR website but can find nothing relevant with regards to employees rights to taking leave while on consultation for redundancy.

Background is that H is on 90 days consultation. Started 02/07/09. He has been job hunting and has been asked to attend a 2nd interview that is a day long in 2 weeks time. He has asked to take holiday for this day and has been refused by his boss who says there are other people off then as well so H can't have it. I thought there was something about allowing employees reasonable time off for interviews when under notice of redundancy but I am not sure if I have remembered that correctly or if it only applies once you have been told you are being made redundant rather than just on consultation. Has anyone heard of this or am I making it up completely??

I am not a HR bod, but I do remember hearing something about being allowed reasonable time off to attend interviews. I am not sure whether that only applies once you have actually been made redundant however.

So, in short, I have been about as much use as a chocolate teapot but I hope you get an answer soon!

Whilst going through a 30 day consultaion process, I was able to take reasonable time to attend interviews. I had told them I was taking the redundancy option, however right up until the final consultation (on the 30th day) I could change my mind at anytime and take any of the positions that they had offered to me. Take a look at this link, may give more info. http://careersadvice.direct.gov.uk/helpandadvice/redundancy/?CMP=KAC-jankw08

What so they can potentially manage without his post permently in less then 90 days time, but they can't manage without him for one day?

What a bunch of unreasonable twonks. Sorry don't know the law - but frankly think they are taking the pee.

    ? Thank you!

His boss has been being unreasonable recently. Not sure how much of it is redundancy related (he is also likely to be going) and how much is just him being an arse.

Glad my recollections weren't completely wrong - sometimes it is difficult to remember what happened, my redundancy consultation passed so quickly.
