Good afternoon

We have been to give notice today £70 later I was surprised to her the cost of our registrar is £385 !! I had it in my head the cost was £200 !

Wondered if prices are different depending on the area you are getting wed at ?

Yea depends on the area I'm affraid, our Registrar fees for Westminster (London) to conduct the ceremony at a licenced venue on a Saturday is around the £475 mark (excluding notice fees)

Ours is in an approved venue too on a Saturday. Prices go up each April in North Yorkshire so by the time we get married (June 2014) I think it will cost us about £420.

They vary a lot across the country; there was a thread recently and part of Cheshire was over £1000 as I remember. Ours is £595 including giving notice and a meeting to discuss what we want in the ceremony. I thought that was quite a lot but it turned to be about average for a Saturday.

    Yep, they differ.

We pay £70 when we give notice and then something like £430 or £450 for the actual ceremony.

    We're St.Albans in Herts btw.

Ours will be around £500 next year! It's astronomical what they charge for about an hours work on the day. I wish we could do the same as America here and get someone ordained.

I am from Scotland and our registrar fee is £385 which is less than in England although I still was surprised it was this much.

Although it is the MOST important cost, and the only bit you actually NEED to be legally married! So if you look at it like that its a bargain really!

Ours is £420 for a licensed venue and we also have to pay the venue £250 to have the ceremony there.

Hi... You are in Doncaster aren't you? If so, I originally looked at getting married at the Grand St Leger, a mere spit from the registry office and yes, I was surprised it was going to cost that much for them covering such a short distance. I think it's something to do with them needing 2 registrars involved or something, plus any time they spend away from the office they are potentially losing out on several other registrations. For example, to have them come to the hotel would have meant they were away for a couple of hours which is what? 4 ceremonies worth at the registry office?

As it is, we are getting married in Hatfield Church and having choir, bells, organist etc comes in at £540 which I think is really good value.

I can't remember where you said you were looking at getting married... But whatever it costs for the legalities it will be well worth it xx
