Registrar fees?

So booked our register today and I was shocked at the cost £485! Likely to actually be £500 as they go up every January and we are getting married next May. Plus £35 each for giving notice. Is this the standard price?? I thought it'd be about £200 max

There's definitely a Cheshire East premium! I'm getting married in Wilmslow and everything (flowers, cake, cars etc) seems to be around 20% more expensive because of the 'two Ws' - 'wedding' and 'Wilmslow'. It's seriously annoying. Thankfully we're having a church wedding at the church I went to from ages 8-18 so the priest is doing it for free. We wouldn't have been able to afford it otherwise.

I grew up in Wilmslow and it never used to be so 'bling'. It breaks my heart to see lovely old houses being demolished and replaced with footballer's monstrosity mansions. It used to be a nice place Smiley sad

Ours is in Brighton and is £595 altogether, I can't remember the breakdown now.

I wouldn't say it's a rip off but I think £50 for a short meeting at their offices (Mon to Fri only) to discuss the ceremony is pretty steep and you have to have that if you want anything other than the bog standard basic ceremony.

The very cheapest you can marry for around here is £49 (plus the £35 each giving notice) at the registry office, max 8 people, no music, no walking down the aisle or any other frills. That's only available on a Monday to Thursday and at one office it's only in the mornings! So it does make it quite difficult if you're looking to get married really cheaply.

Ours was £475 I think, that was Buckinghamshire on a Friday. It is a lot but it is also the most important part of the day!

Wow, I didn't realise how lucky we are! We're getting married in Flintshire - £35 each for giving notice, which seems standard, and £231 for the ceremony at our reception venue plus £4 for the certificate! If you want to get married in the registry office here it is only £45!
