Relief for an abcess in/on the gum?

Ethel, 14 April, 2009 at 15:35 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

I seem to have an abcess in/on my gum. It's happened at the worst possible time (Fashion show tomorrow evening, then flying to Dallas for another show on friday and its my birthday at the weekend). Plus we have to choose a dentist and inform our insurance company and it has to filter down.. I need to try and ease things a bit till I can get to the dentist, is there anything I can do? Im gurgling with Listerine every hour, and thinking about popping some pills..I think I read that a warm compress would help drain the abcess (vomit) anyone know anything about that?

Thanks

Lindsay

Insides of a warm fig, wrapped in gauze as a compress. Works. ?

Also try a warm salt rinse.

    Thanks both..

I have access to salt, so will give that a go first..I will keep my eyes open for the others though, if that doesnt work.

    Thanks again

The absolute best relief I got in a similar position was a product called "Orajel" dental gel. It is similar in texture to Bonjela but it contains benzocaine and oil of cloves and it really helped to numb the pain. I found this, in conjunction with ibuprofen, gave the best relief until I could get to a dentist for antibiotics.
