Reliving my proposal --- I know there is a post like this already but for the new hitchers ...

slou90, 9 November, 2013 at 21:18 Posted on Planning 0 13

Please post your proposal stories :

here is mine ! I have been with my OH 6 years now and his son was 8 weeks old when we got together ( insight into why this proposal meant so much) and we have faced it all ... So here you Are ..

The proposal :

I wake up ... Excited ... It's Christmas morning 2012. It's about 7am ... I think! There is a little man stood at my door with the biggest grin on his face ! 'Daddy! Sarah ! Has Santa been ?'

Now I love Christmas and I'm so excited to see his little face when he sees his stocking . Now usually my Oh sneaks downstairs to check if Santa has been ( aka put the kettle on) me and C sit and wait till he shouts us ... But not today? I get told to stay in bed... And all this time I'm thinking to myself 'whys he changing tradition ) so I do as I'm told and stay in bed as OH shuts the door ... And all the time I'm thinking what? Then I hear a chorus of 'Sarah' - I just have this feeling 'what if?' I mean we had spoke about it but now ? Really? The clutch has just cost £800 quid on the car stop getting your hopes up' - I grab the door for our room and pull it open - I'm stood on the landing - it's silent - 'where are you?' I shout - 'here!' They're behind little mans door - why is it shut ? It's never shut ? I push it open ...

First thing I see is both the boys down on one knee - C is holding a box with a haribo ring in it ... oH is holding the most beautiful diamond ring in a box ... I'm trembling ...

Next thing I know : 'will you marry us' coming from C ? Holding his little haribo - biggest smile on his 5 year old little face ! I don't answer I look at OH? 'So will you marry me baby?'

I don't even remember saying yes ! Just C hugging me as Oh puts the ring on my shaking hand ...

perfect !

    That's a fantastic story slou90.

    Here is my story.

I met my OH at a festival in 2011, so we currently live in different parts of the country. It was 9th March this year, and he was coming to stay for a couple of days. I had been working till 5.30pm, so we met at Harvester for dinner, then popped to get some shopping (bread and milk, all the exciting stuff). OH had just been to Canada to visit his brother who was working over there for 2 months. We were sat on the sofa with a coffee each and OH gave me the presents he got me - nothing big, just a couple of things like a Reeces peanut butter chocolate bar. The last present he gave to me was a little box - inside was a message in a bottle, with a little poem in asking him to marry me! I must have said yes very quietly, or he was so nervous he didn't hear, as after a hug and a kiss he had to check it was a yes.

When we phoned people to tell them, they asked how we were celebrating - and the answer was with the cuppa we had made before he asked me! Another trip to the supermarket later, resulted in bubbles to celebrate.

i later found out OH had asked my dad before hand (he knew I would like it if he did - it is something my dad really appreciated) - and my brother also knew he had permission. I knew he had been trying to find the right time to ask, but trying to buy my dad is almost impossible so it took 6 months before his first attempt to ask my dad to when he managed to propose!

OP.....your story is so adorable! So cute when the little ones are able to get involved!

we got engaged in Paris in July. I know most people would find this predictable but my OH is from strong Irish roots and each year we go over to Donegal, and when there we visit a special spot at the top of a cliff overlooking the sea. So I always assumed we'd get engaged there....and I have to admit each time we've not I've been ever so slightly gutted!

We've been to a few different cities so going to Paris didn't make me suspicious! Not even the fact I had to nickname him Monsiuer Giggles as he kept giggling for no reason!!

on our 3rd day he insisted we went for a picnic and so we walked....and walked....and walked! Until eventually after about 2 hours (while he tried to decide on the ideal place, not too busy etc) we settled down at the River Sienne, where quite a few people were also sitting enjoying picnics. We watched the numerous tour boats go by while eating our baguettes and pastries, then he opened a bottle of pink champagne from his bag. We sat chatting for a bit until he asked me what my favourite part of our Paris trip had been. I looked away off in the opposite direction as I tried to decide....and before I turned back round to him and answered he said "let me make this easy for you". And when I looked at him he was down on one knee with the most Amazing ring in his hand!! I just sat looking at him..to the ring...back to him, stunned!!! I said "omg, does this mean we're engaged?!" And he said "emm only if you say yes!!" It was incredible! He had went to my dad's to ask his permission 3 weeks before...he said Yes!... Then the next day oH went out and bought the ring, then dropped at his best friends house for safe keeping. The ring he bought was just perfect Smiley smile It fit in Paris, but I must have had sausage fingers because of the heat, coz when we got home I had to have it sized down x

for me, it was the most perfect proposal and I'll never forget it! But then, every proposal is perfect to each individual bride and groom Smiley smile xxx

Ahhh slou90 that is really lovely!

My OH is not usually very romantic so it was no surprise when for valentine's day this year he suggested we go for a Chinese the day before v-day because 'it's not as busy'! So I agreed and we went for a Chinese. When we were at the restaurant after we had eaten he gave me a card to open, a v-day card with a poem inside, saying that I had to go home and pack, we were having a 'last minute bargain' weekend away and that I would be picked up from work the following day. All very exciting and suspicious! We went home and my sister turned up to help me pack, she told me what to tke but it was all so random and seemed to point to somewhere cold so I was thinking Scotland. Next day I went to work with my suitcase. At work I was met with a couple of vey excited colleagues and another card on my chair with another poem! This one said that I was being picked up at lunch time (amongst other things). So at 1pm I left work and met OH who had booked a car. We work in London and I could see after a while we were going to st pancras but I still didn't want to believe we were going abroad! After much throwing me off the scent we went in M&S and OH bought us wine and nibbles. As he was putting the bits in his bag he pulled out our passports and said 'hold this' - it took me a good minute to realise I was holding passports and Eurostar tickets to Paris!

We had a lovely journey and I did wonder if he would propose but was so shocked by the valentines trip to Paris I didn't dare think he would propose too! When we arrived in Paris we went to our hotel and OH told me to get Ready to go out for dinner. We jumped in a cab and OH told taxi driver where to take us, I don't speak French so wasn't paying attention. We pulled up at the Eiffel Tower which I thought was odd and I did think 'he is, he's going to propose!' But we spent soooo long walking around it, taking pics etc that I just thought he was a big fan of the tower and gave up on he idea of a proposal! Just when I was about to moan about being starving the tower started sparkling and twinkling and I heard OH say 'now it's time' - when I turned around he was holding out my ring and said 'I'm not getting down on one knee, but will you marry me?' He said more than that but I don't remember it, I think I cried and laughed I was so shocked! I said yes and we rang my family who already knew and were waiting by the phone! He had asked my dad and everyone had known about it for a good few weeks!

He had then arranged for us to have a lovely dinner at a classic French restaurant and when we got back to the hotel he'd bought me a Paris city guide, heart shaped chocs and a wedding magazine which I thought was really thoughtful. There was another card (to my fiancée this time!) and a poem, telling me about the day at Disneyland he had planned and the day sightseeing in Paris also planned. It was a great weekend and he even arranged for our families to meet us at the restaurant at st pancras on our return for a surprise celebratory meal! I think that is all his romance used up now, but it was amazing! He did well!

So, I'm new to this site - so thought I'd share mine Smiley smile

The first time I locked eyes on my OH was in October 2010. I had just moved into my flat and just finished work and I was having some help in attempting to hoof a fridge freezer up a flight of stairs. Due to this, I had blocked the entrace to the flat carpark with my car. Upon looking out the window, I saw another car waiting to get through....so I raced downstairs, apologised and mvoed my car.

After he got out of his, it turned out he was my next door neighbour! A very tall, dark haired handsome male apprached me, and as I was still in half of my work uniform, he looked me up and down and asked if I worked at "such'n'such" - turns out, we worked for the same organisation! He then proceeded to help me hoof this fridge freezer up the stairs!

That was it! We didn't talk again for well over a month when i eventually ended up talking to him over the phone at work and ended up sending him a message asking if he wanted to go for a drink....and the rest is history for how we met!

Zoom forward almost 3 years later and we are on holiday in our favourite place in the whole wide world, Orlando! We have got friends out there, so the day of the proposal was spent with them and the OH cousin who was also on holiday. We spent the day at Universal and got "wined and dined" at the Harry Potter restaurant - all free of charge as our friends knew the manager and just spent the day having fun!

We went back to the hotel to freshen up as it was "half way to St Pattys day" at one of the bars at CitiWalk (Universal) and our friend was at work. So we went down, we had got a large table, all decorated with beads and St Patricks day things.

We settled down for the evening, had a few drinks and some food with our friends and OH cousin, listening to the live dualling pianos (which were awesome)....when one of them shouted out OH's name and started playing one of "our" songs (which strangely, I had just gone up to request!) - i turned around, and the OH had got down on one knee and asked the question - in front of about 100 people!

He had to ask if I had said yes as I was crying so much!

This proposal won't be to everyone's tastes, but it was "us" and the entire day had been thought out to every detail about what we love as a couple! Honestly, one of the best days I have ever had!

I love reading all of these posts .... I'm actually crying (beautiful stories coupled with no sleep and jet leg will do that ha!)

    so here's ours,

we were on holiday in Greece in August of this year with OH family. The second day after dinner he asked if I wanted to go for a walk, I said yes - but was also asking my FSIL if she'd like us to take the baby with us in his push chair as he was starting to get a bit restless but she said no (I was like fine I won't ha!) - and as it was a walk through a Forrest to the beach my OH went with his brother to get his brothers torch (I couldn't understand why he didn't just go and get ours when the room was like another 50yards- turns out his brother had the ring!)

So anyway we walk to the beach - walking along the sea line and he says shall we sit down for a min so we went and found a spot and he then just got down on one knee and his words were "I spose I should do this properly - will you marry me?"

I was speechless! I was kinda expecting for the proposal to be soon but defiantly not that night (hence why i was offering to take the baby with us - its a good job she knew ha!) - it was magical and so special for us. The boy did good

We just bought our first home this year, and after many tins of paint, lots of vacuuming and emptying boxes I was so relieved it was done!

24th July marked 9 years to the day that we met - and I arrived home from work to find my computer wasn't working. Very annoying, and OH decided to annoy me even more by annoucing "there's one more box to open and it's got your name on it so it must be your stuff". I was a little ? as I had marked no box with my name on (just the usual 'kitchen', 'living room' stuff) so I left my grinding computer and to the settee where he had positioned the box so I could see my name very clearly.

I opened the top and removed the mounds of tissue paper (odd, I'd chucked all the excess paper we had) and came across a small box which contained the most orange garish ring I'd ever seen in my life. "I don't own anything like that" I thought to myself, and stared at it for about 10 minutes before he, half amused, stated meaningfully "it's been 9 years and I can't imagine spending my life with anyone else. Will you marry me?"

You'll be pleased to know that the penny dropped then, and I uncovered the champagne and flutes that were also in the box - and also twigged why my mum had been constantly asking if we'd "unpacked all the boxes yet"!

I met my fiance at uni 8 years ago and we have been in a relationship for over 6 years. He isn't normally very romantic and I thought it would take him at least another couple of years to propose as we are in the middle of some quite drastic and expensive house renovations.

Anyway, the story...my OH went to Venice recently with work and so we planned for me to meet him at the weekend, turning it into a mini-holiday. So I flew out after work on the Friday. On the Saturday evening after dinner we were wandering around with a bottle of wine looking for a quiet spot to sit and chat/have a drink just the two of us (sounds chavvy I know). We came across a jetty out into the grand canal and sat down, glasses of wine poured. He then said 'this is the exact same spot we sat 5 years ago' (our first holiday abroad together was to Venice and we did indeed experience this same scenario with bottle of wine, jetty on the grand canal etc.). I didn't believe it could be the same place as there are lots of similar spots in Venice, but he got a picture up on his phone of us sitting there 5 years previous- it was the exact same place! I later learned that he had spent hours searching for it the day before I arrived and it was all planned. Muggins here though says 'wow, what are the chances of finding the same place we came to before!' And still didn't twig. He then said he had bought me a present. It was my birthday a few days later so I was just about to suggest he save it for then, but then he took a box out of his jacket pocket. It was a ring! I was so shocked and started asking 'are you serious?' And then eventually said yes. He wasn't nervous or acting strange at all beforehand which meant I didn't have a clue. I'm still in shock and still can't quite believe this has actually happened but I love telling the story.
