Remember that thread on domestic violence?

Storky, 23 November, 2012 at 10:38 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 38

A while back there was a thread on here about hitched's collective experience with DV. Remember it?

One of the women who read it got in touch with me about writing something about it and I wanted to let you know the first part of her story is up on my blog today. She really is an incredible woman and I wanted to let you know about it, not only to show support for her 'escape' but also in case it brings hope to anyone here who might need it. I know she's happy for her story to be shared so if any of you want to read it, it's here. I only wish people, male or female, didn't have to go through this sort of thing.

I don't remember the original thread but I've just read the blog post and actually cried.

What a brave woman for sharing her story and so wonderfully written as well.

If that made you cry, you wait until you read the second piece. She's an absolute champ, that's for sure.

Huge Lump in my throat reading that.

I’m utterly speechless but I’m so glad that she had the strength and courage to tell her story, hopefully it will help someone in the same situation break the cycle.

    Such a brave women

This is a shocking story of domestic/emotional violence.

I was a child where my mum was was abused by my dad where when he was 'drunk' he was violent. She stayed with him for me and my sister to have a family, Im glad that she left when she did and I admire my mum for what she went through and came out the other end a very strong woman. She is now remarried and very happy.

Im glad that Amy is no longer in this situation for both herself and her daughter, deserves to be happy after what this piece of c*ap has put her through!

Defo can happen to anyone and from the outside all looks normal and happy - never a truer saying that you dont know what happens behind closed doors.

I always said the same when I was growing up I will never let a guy do that to me etc etc - i then got older and discovered about my dad doing that to my mum, my mum is a strong woman who never takes crap of no one and knows how to stand up for herself etc so it really surprised me about this but after years of it obv wore her down and with two young kids in tow she stuck it out.

Its obv a hard situation but for anyone in this position I would always say get out - dont stay for the kids as this is not helping you or them.

This highlights how important it is to teach young women about all sides of relationships.

A difficult story to read, but sometimes it is good to have your eyes re-opened. Too many times I read things like this, think how shocking it is, then go back to my own little bubble. I don't really know what I'm trying to say here.

Glad to read that Amy is safe now and I will look out for the follow up post.

A truly shocking story, I really do feel for Amy. People close to me have suffered terribly from domestic violence and this reallt does sum up how it can be.

I am looking forward to the second part, and so glad she's doing well and happy now.
